Obama Effigy Found Hanging In Plains GA: Jimmy Carter's Home Town
An effigy of US President Barrack Obama was found over the weekend hanging in Plains, GA, home town of former US President Jimmy Carter. The effigy, a black doll hanging by a noose, was found hanging from a building on Main Street in the town of Plains. A witness claims it had a sign on it designating it as Barrack Obama.
The doll was hanging with a rope around its neck in front of a red, white, and blue sign proclaiming Plains, Georgia as the home of former US President Jimmy Carter. It is thought that the effigy was placed in this location around Friday night.
It was a disturbing reminder of another era, reports Tara Mergener of CBS News affiliate WALB-TV; a large black doll hanging by a noose from a building on main street.
It appeared right in front of a red white and blue sign that says, "Plains, Georgia. Home of Jimmy Carter our 39th president. According to a witness, the effigy had President Obama's name on it.
Upon its discovery on Saturday morning, the effigy was quickly removed by local police, but residents of Plains remain concerned about the incident. Police believe that not many Plains residents would have seen the effigy, but the news quickly spread over the weekend. Plains Mayor L.E. Goodwin III has already expressed concern about the effigy and the message it promotes.
Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan has confirmed that the incident is being further investigated but gave no further comment.
