The outpouring of people's reactions has only been increasing since the "news" broke yesterday, however.


ESPN - Obama Administration To Introduce A Fishing Ban?

ESPN broke the news today, speculating that Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and inland waters. So far, ESPN is the only source reporting the news. Meanwhile, Internet is on fire speculating that President Obama might introduce a fishing ban. The news spurred a lot of negative feedback with some Twitter users already calling the fishing ban "Obama's assault on freedom" and "final nail in his coffin."

The ESPN article calls public input into the policy making around fishing a "charade from the beginning."

The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard working American families and small businesses are being ignored.

I think Obama is a idiot and a disgrace to our country. Banning fishing is a violation of our rights and shouldn't be possible. If that happens our hunting rights is in danger. What's next? I hope people dont vote him in again.

In my lifetime, I have never seen a president and an administration that can alienate and piss off as many Americans as the Obama administration has. You people do realize that this "story" is an ESPN blog which only claims that the comment period has ended and the author states he has no idea what Obama is going to do. Furthermore keepamericanfishing.org states that its to " ensure that recreational fishing is recognized and promoted as a distinct ocean, coastal and Great Lakes activity"and that " recreational fishing deserve full consideration and incorporation in the administration’s ocean and Great Lakes management policy" Obama is not banning anything but that recreational fishing groups are seeking to be added such groups as commercial fishing which has protections and regulations. When you don't research anything and simply spout off blind hatred that was spoon fed to you by the media, you are any enemy of Democracy. www.keepamericafishing.org/

The story is astroturfing of the worst order.  Anyone who reads it closely and checks must find it ridiculous.  Those of you complaining about writing skills should remember that reading skills and a healthy skepticism are critical to good citizenship, and if you bought this 'key message' then you're a careless tool.  When it comes to climate change you're skeptics, but if some hack converts a press release into a news story (Montgomery by the way stands by it as a 'news story', not a 'posting' or 'opinion piece') you jump at it because it confirms your desire to hate somebody.  "Shoot, he took our guns, killed our grandmothers, it's not surprising that he'll ban fishing in my pond out back."  Time to look around and see just how badly you've been manipulated by corporate interests who are the real villains (in this case, commercial fishing interests, who are clearly and directly at fault for overfishing in many places, and are the very reason the task force was convened).  PETA and the idiot far-left treehuggers have no pull in the Obama administration, but they're easy to hate.  Read a little bit and lean a few things, or shut up and let the grownups solve problems, but quit your bitching about things you don't understand.ice9

Hi Yankee Jim. So far, only ESPN is reporting the news. I have been very careful in stating that. However, what I thought was interesting is the fact that there is so much online discussion around the news that was not even confirmed yet. It is quite amazing how fast a trend like this picks up from a single source reporting. This story, as is obvious from the headline, is not so much about the fishing ban as it is about the reaction to the "potential" ban that stemmed from one article. I hope that helps and explains the purpose of this post. Thanks.
