President-elect Obama's daughters Sasha and Malia are visiting Washington today with their mother and grandmother. They're in town checking out D.C. schools and have been invited by first lady Laura Bush to visit the Whitehouse.
WASHINGTON -- Malia and Sasha Obama are getting to see their new rooms at the White House. At the invitation of first lady Laura Bush, the daughters of President-elect Barack Obama are touring the White House on Tuesday afternoon with their mother and grandmother. They are in town also to check out new schools. Seven-year-old Sasha and 10-year-old Malia Obama, along with their mother, Michelle, were expected to spend a short time touring the First Family's residential rooms at the White House.
Earlier in the day, the family visited their top choice for schools, "to make sure we find the right fit"," said Mrs. Obama's spokeswoman, Katie McCormick Lelyveld.
Last week, Michelle Obama visited two private schools: Sidwell Friends and Georgetown Day School. Georgetown Day was an early pioneer in integration and prides itself on its diversity.Sidwell Friends is a private Quaker school that Chelsea Clinton attended.
