Obama to GOP: I Believe This is Your Ass...Let Me Hand That 2 U
Okay, maybe-- JUST maybe that's a bit too hyperbolic of a headline...oh well. I don't want to say "I told you so" to all of my Liberal and Progressive friends out there but...you know...
How was that Barry H. today, huh?! You see, all it took was confronting these people, face to face, with their bullsh*t. It's so easy to make crazy accusations to cameras and your base. But what happens when you address them to the man PERSONALLY...with him actually ANSWERING you. As you all saw, it's pretty difficult to run your mouth with your "enemy" standing right in front of you.
Today, President Barack Obama did something unprecedented in America...he publicly confronted his enemies on live television. Not only did he confront them, but he did it with such maturity and authority that it actually frightened Republicans just as they were getting too full of themselves. A few of them have even said, off the record, that bringing cameras into this event was a bad idea (they had tried to keep them out, but begrudginly agreed to it a few hours before the event).
Now Progressives and Liberals are energized again, just as they had been losing faith over the last few weeks. It's because they doubted him. Were they right to? Maybe. But this is the same thing that happened during the campaign-- all the second-guessing and Monday morning quarterbacking about how weak he was towards the Republican attacks. We all know how that turned out, don't we?
This is what I have been saying to all of my friends and family for years about the Republicans. When confronted directly, they haven't got a stable leg to stand on. Can you imagine Sarah Palin EVER doing what Obama did today? How about John McCain? Sh*t, how about George W. Bush?! NEVER in a MILLION YEARS would or could they do ANYTHING like this. Because, you see, you have to really know your stuff to stand up in front of your enemies and answers all of their questions...and without a teleprompter or notes in sight-- did you notice that? A few of the Republicans that asked questions tonight did so with notes (hand-held teleprompters).
And you can probably guess how the GOP is spinning this event. They are throwing around words like "arrogant" and phrases like "we were being lectured." Well, yeah-- you were being lectured, because you needed to be. There's an old saying that goes "Don't let your mouth write a check your ass can't cash". When these Republicans talk their smack about this man, they run the risk of boxing themselves into an ideological corner-- so much so that they can't govern or lead properly. Then, when nothing gets done, they have to explain themselves the only way they know how..."It's his fault!" And "arrogant"? Do you mean in the way that you're dealing with a man that is smarter than you, or a Black man that's smarter than you? One or the other, or both. But race aside, he was OBVIOUSLY the smartest man in that room tonight-- and proved himself to be one of the smartest men in ANY room. I revel in the fact that we have a President with balls AND brains! It was very refreshing and damned exciting to see!
Now, let's see what the Dems do with this. At the end of it all, President Obama is still hopeful that the Republicans will do the right thing. But seeing how Fox News cut out of the last 20 minutes of the questioning, it doesn't seem like this will happen any time soon. But there is a lesson to be learned here. CALL THESE PEOPLE ON THEIR BULLSH*T. They will say anything to keep their jobs. To paraphrase one of their own: "They LIE!!!" Let them. With the teabaggers vying for relevance, the GOP is entering a circular firing squad. Again, let them. And maybe, just maybe, they will come out the other side with a bit more sense. Hell, maybe the Democrats will learn a little bit as well. One can only hope...
