Obama “hit” investigated
UPDATE:
"Atlanta Jewish Times publisher out over Obama ‘hit' column | ajc.com
www.ajc.comThe owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times has resigned under pressure after writing a column suggesting that Israel consider assassinating President Barack Obama, a Jewish news agency reported Monday."
Andrew Adler was seeking attention, and he got it. Threatening the life of the president is a federal offense. A “publisher” knows better and should be prosecuted for his action. Did he fabricate the story? Is it his imagination and speculation? What is the basis?
My interpretation of “Israel-firsters,” is it likely stems from the Israel law that gives priority to Jews seeking to live in Israel an open visa to make the land their own. If you are of Jewish faith, you have a place to go at your will.
Given that option, some people may place loyalty in that haven over wherever else they live. That translates into “Israel first,” or maybe “Israel last.”
“Secret Service investigating Jewish newspaper column that discussed Obama assassination
Published January 20, 2012
FoxNews.com
The Secret Service said it is looking into a recent op-ed from an Atlanta publisher that floated the idea of green-lighting Israeli Mossad agents to assassinate President Obama in order to improve Israel's security against enemies like Iran.
The publisher and author, Andrew Adler, reportedly has apologized.
But Jewish advocacy groups condemned his comments as "outrageous," and Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie said the agency is "aware" of the incident.
"We're conducting the appropriate investigative steps," he told FoxNews.com.
Ogilvie would not comment on whether Adler has been contacted or whether his column was deemed a potential threat to the president.
In the Jan. 13 column in the Atlanta Jewish Times, Adler floated three scenarios for how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would deal with a nuclear Iran and other threats in the region.
Adler wrote that Israel could order a strike on Hezbollah and Hamas, or a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.
A third option, he wrote, would be to "give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States' policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies."
Leaving no question about what he was suggesting, Adler went on:
"Yes, you read 'three' correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel's existence. Think about it. If I have thought of this Tom Clancy-type scenario, don't you think that this almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel's most inner circles? Another way of putting 'three' in perspective goes something like this: How far would you go to save a nation comprised of 7 million lives...Jews, Christians and Arabs alike?"
Adler later told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he will publish an apology. "I very much regret it," he said.
But Jewish advocacy groups were outraged.
Abraham H. Foxman, director of the Anti-Defamation League, said there is "no excuse" for that kind of rhetoric.
"It doesn't even belong in fiction. These are irresponsible and extremist words. It is outrageous and beyond the pale. An apology cannot possibly repair the damage," he said in a statement. "Mr. Adler's lack of judgment as a publisher, editor and columnist raises serious questions as to whether he's fit to run a newspaper."
The National Jewish Democratic Council described the comments as "despicable."
"It is the height of irresponsibility to make the horrific suggestion that the State of Israel should assassinate the President of the United States of America," NJDC President David Harris said in a statement. "To dare to give such despicable ideas space in a newspaper -- no less in the words of the paper's owner and publisher, and a Jewish newspaper at that -- is beyond the pale."
Adler has not responded to a request from FoxNews.com for comment.
The website Gawker first reported, and posted, the column.

Second Opinion
U.S. publisher who called for Obama assassination proves ‘Israel-firsters’ exist
Andrew Adler, a Chabadnik newspaper publisher, urged Israel to consider assassinating President Obama. In doing so, he resolved a silly debate
Andrew Adler is the publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, and soon he’ll have to spare some time from his busy schedule to answer questions from Secret Service agents. Why? Because, when opining last week on just how Israel should deal with Iran, Adler unleashed a fantasy, and wrote that “[option] three, give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies.””

This smells like another Yankee Jim thinly veiled PSYOP. Should you or the agencies/commands for whom you troll so branzenly telegraph their ingrained and meticulously cultivated prejudices? (See John Loftus' book, "The Secret War Against the Jews"). Is the Secret Service investigating the threat to the President, Vice President and other elected officials posed by THIS? Or is no investigation required because the answers are already known?

Jim you are treading on very uncomfortable ground when you imply or question the loyalty of American Jews.
This was one stupid unthinking idiot that made a foolish and regrettable remark.
Israel does not allow anyone that is Jewish to just come and take land and be a citizen in spite of what you are implying. There is no open visa as you defined it regarding Jews living in Israel. If you are a Jew and this is currently defined based on the Hitler laws during WWII then you have an opportunity to become a citizen of the State. But, that aside it is NOT automatic and each person is screened just like any place else in the world.
In fact, if you are not Jewish it is possible to be a citizen and live here. As many currently do aside of course from the already indigenous minorities that have full citizenship Jewish or not.
BTW, I have no idea that an "Israel firster" even exists. In all of my life living in the U.S. I never once heard of such a person.

I am intentionally airing this topic and feel that discussions and responses, mostly yours, help refine understanding and clarify.
The person who responded comparing the situation with Canadians made an interesting point. it made me think -- immigrants from everywhere have affinity with their cultural roots. Nothing wrong with that.
There are special circumstances surrounding the creation of Israel that make it unique -- unique in requiring exceptional empathy and understanding.
I am not intentionally questioning the loyalty of American Jews, though admit the discussion walks a line.

BTW, your second link is to a online magazine that is anti-Israeli and anti-Zionist with a number of writers suggesting the destruction of the Jewish State. Yossi Gurvitz is notorious for his screeds and exaggerations. I know a few of these writers some of which have been ostracized out of creditable mainstream and online news agencies for their hate speech.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Israel Policy Forum today released the following statement:
Israel Policy Forum is shocked and appalled by the column published in the Atlanta Jewish Times by its owner and publisher Andrew Adler calling for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “to give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies."
Adler puts to shame Jewish values, reneges on American patriotism and discredits journalism. His statement of regret is clearly not sufficient. Adler told reporters that he was attempting “to get a reaction.” He is rightfully getting one from the Secret Service for threatening the life of our President. He should also get a strong, loud and adamant reaction from a united American Jewish community—We will not stand for this.
Enough is enough.
We are tired of extremists on the fringes of the political spectrum dragging the US-Israel relationship into the mud. Adler’s remarks are just the latest and most extreme example of how the discourse in the Jewish community has gone awry when it comes to issues concerning the future of the State of Israel. The US-Israel relationship is too important for the Jewish community to tolerate this any longer.
