Senator Barack Obama incited an Indianapolis crowd of over 10,000 this afternoon reiterating his message of change and promise to the middle class and under privileged. His speech was not unlike many of the other speeches he has given over the last few months promising hope, promise and change in Washington.
"My mother died at the age of 53 of ovarian cancer. The doctors could not save her life because of what they called her 'pre-existing condition'." The crowd burst into boos and jeers. "I will not let that happen to any of you!!!"
Every walk of life was represented at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. White, black, hispanic, asian, babies, toddlers, the disabled, the elderly. Not a moment went by without the blaring screams of angry citizens howling about the current injustices of the economy, the failed health care system, the war, the lack of educational resources not available to everyone.
Bernice, a 68 year-old woman sitting next to me was in awe when she stated that this was the most important political event of her life. She told me her story of the dream she had that Obama would be the next President of the United States and said with psychic confidence, "He WILL WIN!"
Everyone around me was not in argument with her. Feet were stomping the stands in unison as if we were singing "We Will Rock You", by Queen. And it indeed felt like a rock concert. The excitement was invigorating over the cold Indiana drizzle.
Obama stated, "McCain and his camp have promised to focus the next 30 days on me and my character. We will not be hoodwinked! We will not be bamboozled!"
After Obama's speech, the drizzle and cold cleared. The sun came out and we all walked out singing along to Stevie Wonder's song, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours!"
Will it be ours? Will it be time for change? Only time will tell.
