Obama has introduced Senator Joe Biden as his Running Mate at a rally in Springfield today.  The emphasis has been on the shared background, with Obama having been brought up by a single mother from an early age.  Biden said "Barack and I share the American story,"  Biden said, "Barack has passed the test of leadership.  He has shown vision".

In a mutual back-scratching excerise, Obama said, "Biden will put an end to a disastrous foreign policy.  Biden is a foreign policy expert."

The debate between political pundits now is why, if, "the time for change has come," Senator Obama has a Congressman who has been around for 30-years and not a governor..

US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has introduced veteran Senator Joe Biden as his running mate at a rally in Springfield, Illinois.

He hailed him as a "man with a distinguished record and a fundamental decency".

Mr Obama's confirmed his choice of running mate overnight on his website and with a text message after the news began to leak to the media.

The two men are making their first appearance following the announcement.

Mr Biden, a 65-year-old veteran lawmaker, is highly respected on foreign policy and is a six-term senator who serves on the powerful Foreign Affairs Select Committee.
