The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows a steady race with Barack Obama enjoying a five percentage point lead over John McCain. Obama attracts 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 41%. When "leaners" are included, Obama leads 49% to 44%.

Obama leads by twelve percentage points among women, but trails by three among men. Among White Women, McCain leads by just four percentage points. That’s a much smaller advantage among White Women than George W. Bush enjoyed four years ago.

Overall, McCain leads by nine among White Voters. Obama leads 94% to 3% among African-American voters and 61% to 30% among Hispanic voters.

Obama is viewed favorably by 56% of voters and unfavorably by 42%. McCain’s numbers are 54% favorable and 43% unfavorable. Opinions are more strongly held about Obama than McCain--32% have a Very Favorable opinion of Obama while 27% have a Very Unfavorable view. For McCain, those numbers are 17% Very Favorable and 18% Very Unfavorable.

An analysis of Rasmussen Reports data from 15,000 telephone interviews shows that libertarian voters favor Obama over McCain.

New data released today shows that voters are strongly opposed to a proposal that would lower the speed limit national to 55 miles-per-hour. Voters continue to prefer solutions that focus on obtaining more energy rather than conservation.

It's so damn early, this time last year McCain's presidential hopes were basically nil. I don't think Obama's were much better. I mean, heck, these guys aren't even officially the nominees yet!

Big T,

Your right the numbers mean very little until after the convention bumps.  The data that will mean the most is following the first debate. I am compelled to report the numbers anyway.

Oh, I'm not knocking you at all. I was wondering if you knew what the sampling skew was (i.e. 33% republican, 33% democrat, 33% independent or something like that. I know that in the past that polls have been skewed in favor of democrats.).

Within the article there is links to the actual reports that give that data.  If they don't post it I don't report it.  I like the data break down as well.  I knew you were not knocking me. I don't get defensive easly as I am secure in what I do.  I get called a right wing nut every day.  I just return facts  or  articles I have written or highlighted from the other side.

I went back to the demographics.  He didn't report the party break down.  He used other demographics as white, black, hispanic, libertarian.  did not report Rep/dem breakdown today.  I believe the tracking polls are split in half but not sure.
