The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community had thrown their weight behind President Barack Obama in the presidential elections last year and now want discrimination to be dumped into the dustbin of history.
Other than hidden xenophobia, there is blatant homophobia in US society that sees gays being discriminated against in virtually all fields of life, including the armed forces.
Obama has also promised repeal of a discriminatory law promulgated by the so-called WASP -- White Anglo-Saxon Protestants -- called the Defense of Marriage Act, that confers a strictly bigoted feudal definition to marriage as a covenant between opposite sexes.
