Opportunity Lost

Obama needs to be more visible in addressing economy.

It seems to me that we are witnessing a leadership void at the White House. Now is past the time to see the President huddling with the best brains to craft a solution to the downward sinking economy. He cannot talk his way out of our problems. It is time to put his organizing skills together and assemble a working team, not to study the problem but to produce actionable results.

President Obama is leaving himself wide open, depending on Congress to work things out on the debt ceiling and budget reduction plans. He is the Chief Executive and needs to perform like one. If he does not act, he is leaving the door open for the likes of Mitt and Jon to demonstrate their CEO abilities.

That may not be a bad thing if Obama doesn’t get with it.

NEW YORK — Lingering concerns about the U.S. economy are pushing the stock market lower for a fourth straight day.

Airline stocks dropped today after an industry group cut its profit estimate for the year. Banks fell on concerns that the government will require them to hold more cash to cover losses.

Stocks closed broadly lower. All 10 industry groups in the S&P 500 index fell.

The Dow dropped 61 points, or 0.5 percent, to 12,090. The S&P 500 index fell 14, or 1.1 percent, to 1,286. The Nasdaq lost 30, or 1.1 percent, to 2,703.

Four stocks fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange. Consolidated volume came to 3.6 billion shares.
