The neat thing about listening to Barack Obama speak when he is off-prompter (where a speech is written out for him to read directly from an image projected on to a reflective glass surface), is that it is really easy to tell when he is unprepared to respond to a particular issue or question that is asked – just listen.
He, the junior Senator from Illinois, is usually very smooth in his speaking style – clear, succinct, and directly to the point – especially on subjects he is well versed on and/or he is reading from a Teleprompter. When Barack has to answer a question he hasn’t thought about … and has to come up with an answer that he thinks will “sell” his “everyman” image, he puts a lot of unnecessary I’s, and’s, and ah’s which usually NEVER make it into a transcript of the answer that he gives.
On the Sunday political interview program aired on ABC-TV, ‘This Week’ with George Stephanopoulos, a question came up that illustrates the point quite clearly. The answer is so labored that it almost causes one to think back on the comedy sketch routinely played by Jon Lovitz where he floats an obvious bogus answer to a question posed --- and then mutters to himself, “Ahhh, that’s the ticket!”

George Stephanopoulos asks, “One of our viewers wrote in, you talk about “Service”, and asks - Brenda Gottfried Bryant - Murietta, Georgia, “Did you ever consider joining our armed services to protect and serve our country, and if not, why?”
“You know, I actually did,” Obama said. “I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school. And I was growing up in Hawaii. And I had - (ah) - friends who, whose parents were in the military. There are a lot of Army, (ah) military bases there.
“And (ah) I actually always thought (ah) of the military as (ah) some ennobling (ah) and, and, you know, honorable option. But keep in mind that I (ah) graduated in 1979. (ah) The Vietnam War had come to an end. (ah) We weren't engaged (ah) in an active (ah) (ah) military conflict at that point. (ah) And so, it's not an option that I ever decided to pursue.”
We, at MAXINE, wish we could get a dollar for every (ah) that Barack Obama utters on answers to questions that are genuinely out of the socialist/progressive character template that Obama holds.
Just on this last exchange alone, we would get enough money ($13.00) to catch a fish taco lunch at the local Islands café, and have enough left over for a couple of beers!
Add the unecessary "And's" that mostly begin the sentences ($5.00), and one could invite a friend.
Ahhhh, that's the ticket!

I think this is the case with any politician Edmund...speeches and even opinions are so tested and practised that it's hard for us to get honest / real opinions. And if your talking comedy routines, dont make me bring up George W.

Alex Arthur (not verified):
I purposely included the link so that one could judge for themselves the level of change in the demeanor and tact Barack Obama took in his answer to this question that came at the end of the interview.
What is not at opinion is that Barack Obama was extremely uncomfortable with this question. He loves to site and question other politician's answers to difficult propositions as that ... "do they just make this stuff up?"
If he is so willing to throw this type of speculation around, then I suggest to Barack Obama ... On joining the military service ... "Are you just making this stuff up?"
During this time that Senator Obama is referring to (1979), our military had hundreds of thousands of soldiers stationed in Europe due to the Cold War as well as South Korea and other theaters where we felt conflict could happen in a short period of time. What was wrong at serving our country for those reasons?
Oh, and did I mention that this whole episode of Barack Obama actually considering to join the military is not mentioned ... not even hinted at in HIS memoir? Actually, it really does sound like he made this "military" story up.
We, our country, still could have used his service!

Edmund Jenks, I like this story. It's good stuff.
And ah can I get ah a share ah of that?
He does that because he is trying to not say 'my muslim faith'. He is scared he will tell the truth.

It wasn't that he talks funny ... it's that when he makes stuff up in order to appeal to the everyman (in you) that he talks funny. Sounds to me you must be a funny, quirky kind'a guy.
Listen to the video (that is why the link is provided) as opposed to making uninformed statements. He clearly sounds normal at the beginning of the interview when he is ON his talking points.

Edmund Jenks, I like this story. It's good stuff.
Of course he is making it up ! They're all making it up as they go !! That's gotta explain how Palin got into the picture ... somebody threw it out there in a strategy meeting, McCain loved it, and here we are ... the rest of the world is laughing so hard at America now it is p-----g itself !!!

This is the best you can do to discredit the Senator? He uses non-words like um, and uh sometimes? Wow. That's harsh. Our current President makes up words that don't exist and mispronounces important words like "nuclear".
If this is the best you can do, it is sad.
Oh, and your, "that's the ticket" reference is so old, you needed to explain the joke. Not usually a good sign. Here's a tip: lay off the 20 year old SNL references. Very few of us watched the show back then.

It is obvious that the level of discovery that I have invested here is not appreciated judging by the previous responses.
How is this for DISCREDIT:
Barry Obama, when he graduated from High School, was not required to sign up for the Selective Services because the then President Ford had disbanded the requirement in 1975 (how about a 33 year old reference - to the dolt doomed to repeat history).
Further, it was not until after 1980 when the new cheif executive reinstated the requirement and made the sign-up retroactive ... that would be someone who actually had some executive experience, America's worst President of the 20th Century, Jimmy Carter.
The fact that Barack Obama leads the listener to believe that he needed to sign up for the Selective Services in 1979 hints at two positions; He is lying or he has his FACTS WRONG. Either way, the junior Senator from Illinois (to use another SNL reference) is NOT READY for primetime.
Folks, we are just crusin' down the road to a socialist version of Carter's Second Term.

When you don't have a candidate you can stand behind, all you can do is hate the other guy and hope foe the best.
Many of the disapponted GOPers will never have a good word for McCain, so their time will be invested in attacks and not issues.

Ain't hate ... just facts.
You might want to check them out for yourself - com' on, you're old enough to know when someone is kneedeep in the stuff he's putting out.
The last three minutes of McCain's RNC speech was enough for me to stand behind HIM ... at least there is support for self-reliance from a McCain*Palin ticket.
I suspect that you lean toward socialist agendas, so please take your Linus blanket to the polling place where your vote for an Obama*Biden ticket will return to you the lazy, reduced freedom, mommystate life you seek.
