Richardson has a unique combination of national and international experience that can help American companies, Obama said at a news conference today in Chicago at which he formally announced the New Mexico governor as his choice to lead the Commerce Department.

“Bill has seen from just about every angle what makes our economy work and what keeps it from working better” and is a leader “who shares my values,” Obama said.

Mr Richardson is one of the most prominent Hispanic politicians in the US and his nomination has been expected for several weeks.
Obama, who will be inaugurated as president on January 20th, has been announcing his cabinet picks in a series of press conferences over the past couple weeks.
