Obama Says Palin Pregnancy “Off Limits”
Barack Obama speaks out and tells campaign and supporters to lay off Palin's daughter.
Obama Says Palin Pregnancy “Off Limits” Share --> by Bonney KappBarack Obama addressed a gaggle of reporters this afternoon to discuss the latest goings-on with Hurricane Gustav. After brief opening comments on the much-hyped, overly politicized hurricane, reporters were curious about one thing: 17-year-old Bristol Palin’s pregnancy, made public today.
Sen. Obama brought a bit of history into play.
“I have heard some of the news on this and so let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off limits, and people’s children are especially off limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics,” the Democrat said forcefully. “It has no relevance to Governor Palin’s performance as governor, or her potential performance as a VP. And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories,” he continued.
The candidate who himself was born to a teenage mom, reminded reporters, “You know my mother had me when she was 18, and how a family deals with issues and you know teenage children, that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that’s off limits.”
What about the McCain claim the Obama campaign is spreading rumors?
“I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us,” he said directly. “Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I ever thought that it was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that - they’d be fired,” he added.
While Obama says the topic is off limits, it remains to be seen if supporters follow his lead.

Seems clear enough already: can't stop the talk. The candidate need say nothing but appear to be above such issues.

I have had the same problem with Sen. McCain and his responses, or lack thereof.
It is a blessing and a curse that words can travel so quickly these days,

If it is off limits then why the humiliation of President Clinton and the witch hunt to destroy that mans life, which ultimately affected Hillaries career? You know it's OK to pouind the Clintons into the dirt, which Obama and MCain have no problem in doing, but when it comes to their own short comings some how its off limits.
The reason this comes up is if Sarah Palin is such a great candidate she seems to have no moral compass on her daughters actions in beinging pregnant before finishing high school, or before getting married? And if S. Palin is that Very Religious type person they are passing off to the Evangelical Christians, how did she seem to not get through to her own daughter?
Perhaps she was raped? What? This is the story of understanding just what kind of families we want to have in the White House. Obama's mother may have been young when she had him, but was her mother the VP pick at the time? Absolutely not. Obama has a lot of things he wants to say....in not making families accountable to people who do the job in Politics, but frankly that is just what we need to do.
If Repubicans do not retract the lies and smear of honorable Bill Clinton and the humiliation it brought to Hillary, I see no reason why bringing the truth out about S. Palins teenage daughter messing around and getting pregnant. We have a right to know who the father is? What maybe it was John MCCain?

As far as I am concerned, unless someone can prove Sarah Palin is the father, it's of no consequence.
It's already out. There's no point dwelling on it.
Plus, just as it was years ago with Chelsea, there is a teenage girl that is going to have to go back to school and face her peers.
I get your point, but if the scum who hounded the Clintons apologized, I don't know if I would believe them. I don't want to be remembered as being that kind of person.

unless someone can prove Sarah Palin is the father.
This makes no sense............
Goes to show that people have no faith that admitting their mistakes is a worthwhile endeavor? Some how I don't believe that.

Thanks, Vinny.
I honestly was about to say "heckuva job" on the hurricane coverage, but I think excellent job on the hurricane coverage is a wiser choice of words.

dunkelberg, I like this story. It's good stuff. I agree that the kid shouldn't be hounded. It's easy to make mistakes when you're in love or think you're in love. I don't agree that family members who are paraded on the political platform and give speeches on behalf of the candidate are off limits as they are part of the campaign. In the end, it's none of my business as I'm in Canada and we have plenty of politicians to criticize of our own.

Thanks Barbara.
Feel free to comment on our crowd. I am not fond of your current PM and his government, but so what?
I also remember with great fondness how now President George W. Bush was so grateful for the support of Canada's Prime Minister Jean Poutine.

Goodness, Thanks for the Video clip, I almost forgot about that Poutine joke.
