Obama to speak at Berlin's Victory Monument on June 24th
After much back and forth about where Barack Obama would be making his only European speech and appearance, it's been decided to be in Berlin, Germany this Thursday at the Winged Victory column (Siegessäule) at 7PM. As a Berliner who's planned for weeks to go, this should be the one opportunity for we - the Americans Abroad - to see a candidate that we have the opportunity to vote for. This should be interesting - to say the least.
Berlin authorities expect Obama to begin his speech at around 7 pm on Thursday, and say they are planning for up to a million people to show up to the Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburger Gate and Siegessäule to see him.
Security measures are being planned to create an Obama 'fan mile' similar to that set up for hundreds of thousands of people to watch European Championship football matches on big screens in the same area.
