Florida resident, Jim Piccillo, mixed up Joe Biden and John McCain while introducing the Vice Presidential candidate at a Tampa, Florida rally. Piccollo had been invited to do the introduction after he had crossed party lines to support Barack Obama.

"Are you ready for the change that we all need?" Jim Piccillo asked, as he warmed up the Tampa crowd for Biden. "Then no matter what your party, gender, or race or religion, help me today in welcoming the next vice president of the United States ... John McCain!"

It's unclear whether anyone in the crowd could hear the flub. Biden greeted the audience and took the stage all the same. He didn't mention it in his speech.

Piccillo later told The Tampa Tribune he didn't even know he had said "John McCain" until he heard it on the radio driving home with his girlfriend.

"I screamed, 'I can't believe I did that,'" he told the Tribune.

I know the Internet's gonna eat up the video, but I feel sorry for the guy.

Perhaps. you remember -

In a campaign with plenty of gaffes to go around, John McCain added one to the mix Wednesday. The Republican presidential candidate addressed a crowd in Pennsylvania as “my fellow prisoners.”

McCain made the slip while discussing his plans for the economy, including health care and energy policies. “Across this country, this is the agenda I have set before my fellow prisoners,” he said. The prepared remarks, which the campaign distributed during the speech, showed he meant to say “citizens.”

and then there was this -

I've championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. In fact, I told Congress thanks, but no thanks, on that "bridge to nowhere."

She added she sent the money back.

Wait!  That wasn't misspeaking.  That was just an outright lie.  Never mind.

Jason Sanders, I like this story. It's good stuff.  The ability to edit one's work is the advantage that writers have over public speakers.  I know how this guy felt.  I usually come away from conversations with something left unsaid or that I wish I had phrased differently.  But an error like this one -- how embarressing!  Sen. Biden handled the botched introduction he received like the pro that he is, didn't he?  He will be a very fine VP!
