Obama wins Americans Worldwide: results are in
The results of the worldwide Democrats Abroad Presidential primary are in determining the equivalent of 4.5 delegates represented by 9 delegates: Obama received 65% of the vote, the equivalent of 2,5 delegates whilst Hillary Clinton received 32.7%, for the equivalent of two delegates. The other 5 delegates who represent 2.5 delegates are determined in April, in Vancouver at the Global Convention. Worldwide almost 25,000 Americans took part making the event bigger than many caucuses or primaries in the States, outnumbering Alaska, Idaho, North Dakota or Montana.
Amongst the 1600 in-person votes caste of the 2500 votes from France, votes were for Obama 3-1, according to Meredith Wheeler, Chapter Chair of Toulouse. Americans abroad can still register in their home state to qualify to vote in the November elections.

The Democrats Abroad controls seven pledged delegates at the party's national convention this summer. However, the group's system of dividing the delegates is unique, and could create an anomaly in which Obama and Clinton end up with fractions of delegates.
The party will send 14 pledged delegates to the convention, each with a half vote. The primary was used to determine nine people, or the equivalent of 4.5 delegates. Obama won 2.5 and Clinton won two, according to Schon Marques.
The Democrats Abroad will hold a global convention in Vancouver, Canada, in April to select the other five people who will attend the convention. They will represent the remaining 2.5 votes. The system creates the possibility that Obama
and Clinton could each end up with an extra half vote at the
convention, Schon Marques said.
Democrats Abroad has the status of a State Party within the Democratic Party. As such, we will send 22 voting Delegates and one or more Alternates to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, August 25-28, 2008. Eight of these Delegate positions are pre-allocated to our eight members of the Democratic National Committee. The other Delegates and Alternate(s) will be elected at Democrats Abroad’s Regional Caucuses and Global Convention. Finally, one Member for each of the three Standing Committees of the Democratic National Convention (Platform, Credentials, and Rules) will be elected by the Democrats Abroad Delegation once it has been composed.
Americans at the voting center in Paris on Tuesday Feb. 12 were not the only enthusiasts for Obama. The French too have been captivated by the man who voted "no" as they did, to the war on Iraq.
