After leading the way in his use of social media and the internet, President Obama has posted an incredible photo gallery of high-resolution, behind-the-scenes images to the photo-sharing site Flickr to commemorate his first 100 days in office.

The White House photos, which span the 100 days from 1/20/09 - 4/28/09 were also posted as a viewable slideshow to the Whitehouse.gov blog by Pete Souza and the White House Photo Office, under the heading "Delivering on Change, an Inside Look"

In another bold move, the Whitehouse posted the photos under Creative Commons licenses to allow members of the public to download, share, and re-post the photos (almost) anywhere they choose.

Obama's team set this wonderfully, open-sourced precedent on the night of his election to the Presidency, when he and his team posted an amazing set of 82 private election night photographs to the BarackObamadotcom Flickr page.

In another online move, President Obama will stream his first 100 days news conference live on YouTube beginning Wednesday at 8pm EDT.

Those photos from the United States White House are for the American public to use as part of the Federal government, therefore, public domain.

Mr. Souza is the White House staff, therefore, his works are on behalf of the US President, which is why it is puzzling for him to post some of his photos on a commercial site?

Great set of pictures they are too! Whether you love or hate him ( I'm English so I only can comment as a "foreigner" looking in) embracing the online community is a bold and intelligent move.
