NP Rank:
Obama's 'Groveling' to Saudi King
Sam Stein of the Huffington Post has a nice piece from the April 9th edition regarding President Obama's bow to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia during the meeting of the G-20 in London. Conservatives are jumping on this one with guns blazing.
This past week CNN White House Correspondent Dan Lothian asked White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs a legitimate question. Why exactly did the President bow to Abdullah? Gibbs offered that Obama did not bow, and seemed a bit miffed over Lothian's questioning something that happened at the G-20 the previous week:
Everyone, including Stein, seems to be missing the boat on what Lothian's question should have been. I'd like to know who's paying for the Super Duper Blackberry the president needed to keep from getting sequestered in the proverbial Presidential Bubble. If it's the American taxpayer, therein lies the real dilemma.
I'm beginning to wonder if the Blackberry is actually being used to keep a new bubble from enclosing the bubble Obama's apparently been living in for a very long time.
I don't care what reason he had for doing it. Respect for Abdullah's position; respect to someone that's shorter and older than himself and needing to reach down to get to his hand; accidentally spitting out a piece of gum and bending over to pick it up and shaking the king's hand on his way to the discarded chicklet.
Although Abdullah's two years older and no shorter than Queen Elizabeth, Obama certainly didn't bow to her when they met. She's even held her royal postion longer than the king has. Maybe it's because the king wields real political power. As Arsenio Hall used to say, "Kinda makes you go, hmmm." Come on. None of this makes any sense.
We don't dip our flag and the President of the United States bows to no other world leader. It may be superficial in the large scheme of things as Gibbs tried to shrug off with his response, but the president just seems to have a way of handing his enemies ammunition.
If he continues to do this, I'm going to have to insist he give the Blackberry back.
Never fear though, I'm sure the inept Republicans will load their latest find of ordnance and, as is usually the case with those numbnuts, manage to use it on themselves.
