Obama's Name Banned for Mississippi School Children After Election
Pearl, Mississippi is a small town where Obama supporters were afraid to put signs on their lawns supporting their candidate. School children were told on Wednesday not to say "President Obama," or they would face disciplinary action. Two children were caught saying President-elect Obama's name and were kicked off their school bus. Freedom of speech is apparently taking a back seat ride in Pearl.

Some Pearl Students Told Not To Say Obama's Name
PEARL, MISS. -- The Schools superintendent said that a school bus driver and a coach were disciplined for allegedly telling students not to say President-elect Barack Obama’s name.
16 WAPT News received several calls from upset parents that said a school bus driver told the children on a Pearl school bus that if they said Obama’s name, they would be written up and taken to the principal’s office for disciplinary reasons.
Another parent said that a coach at Pearl Junior High School told students that if they speak Obama’s name, they would face expulsion.
Parents said the incident is sad as America begins a new presidency.
"They feel like they are afraid to say our president's name because they will get in trouble," mother Canishia Simpson said. "They shouldn't have to feel that way."

Are we really surprised about this considering freedom of speech was taken from our schools long ago by banning prayer. Its ridiculous and sad that our constitution is being raped in these ways.

Prayer does not belong in schools. It's called separation of church and state.

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. He's our freaking president! Last time I checked they're just being patriotic...they're just mentioning the president's name?! This is ridiculous. I bet you could say mccain if HE won. Come on...

If we would let God into our lives and consult him on all the thing we do just maybe we wouldn't be worrying about such trivial things. I voted for Jesus and He has kept me finatially well and healthier then I have ever been. To all those who want to reply to this statement. Think about it. IF your in a bad place and situation in your life. How can letting a figure of history proven to have been put on a cross through so much written record to die for our sins, how then can you keep denying his existence in your life. When you sin God is unhappy. Not with you but with what you did. God loves us all. So when your in a bad place and there is no help for you. Recognize that the one person who will always help you is CHRIST. It may take you a while to see the benifit of living for him insted of you, but you will if you sumit to him and try and to have a relationship with him. So those who don't know CHRIST don't reply just spend the little time you have insted to pray and ask Jesus to reveal himself in your life. God will work miraculus things in your life if you let him. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOOSE BY DOING WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS? If you don't you may loose your soul. That is what it says. Follow me and I will make you fisher of men! Powerful! Righteous! WHOLE! COMPLETE! JOYEOUS! With all you need. To have more abundance in your life. You can find it. Start looking for Jesus to reveal himself to you. Then you will understand what all us, who you call JESUS FREAKS, why prayer is so important. GOD BLESS. Remember God loves all even his enemies but he blesses those who follow him. Do you want GOD's Blessings in your life?

It's unfortunate that Jesus hasn't helped you with your spelling or grammar in addition to keeping you "finantially well".

Happened to a close friends niece who goes to a school in L.A.. So, if it happened in a blue state, you know it happened in a red state. Why be surprised?

So far the freedom of speech and the upholding of the US constitution by Republicans. That's exactly the reason I fear those fundamentalists freaks and then people dare to call me, a Muslim, a fundamentalist?

LESSONS -
You've got to be taught to hate and fear
You've got to be taught from year to year
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made
And people whose skin is a different shade
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be taught before it's too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be carefully taught

So sad that children were involved as this unhappy pair react to the election results. No doubt the children were all a-buzz with the news and the bus driver and coach couldn't stand it. I pray that festering racism won't go further than this.
at 09:17 on November 7th, 2008
Sad, that! They (the driver and coach) were disciplined, but the children's joy is forever tarnished.

This is not made up by any means. I am in Georgia and my son and his classmates have experienced the exact same thing! They are being told by teachers & coaches that they do not want to hear anything about this black man taking over the presidency. This is unconstitutional and I as a tax paying parent will nto stand for it. If I have to get Al Sharpen,Jesse Jackson, all the news teams out here to put this nonsense on blast, I will with the support and help from all the other angry upset parents. They should embrace that our children are even paying attenetion to this election instead of making them feel they are doing and saying soemthing wrong! Let's ban together AGAIN,because we did it before to get him elected to get these racist people out of our school system!!!!!!

some kids where my children attend school took it a little too far by making racial comments like " So now look who's the boss" and "Who's in the White House now. my kids were alright with Obama, but not with the racial way his win is being touted. several altercations broke out between students because of this. I believe that this teacher and bus driver were probably trying to keep altercations at bay by telling them not to say his name, especially if they were doing it in a taunting way
at 12:38 on November 7th, 2008
Knowing children, I can believe this kind of taunting happened. Knowing people, I realize there will forever be those who judge others by race and pass negativity down through generations. Most people who supported the GOP or other candidates for president did not do so for racial reasons, but many did. Thank God, small-mindedness did not rule the day on Tuesday! I believe we will see with this new administration much needed, positive CHANGE!
YES, WE CAN --- AND YES, WE DID!

Nice piece of agit-prop, that.
at 13:35 on November 19th, 2008
I can see the fear of a parent not knowing how the children will take others reactions. I can also see that the control of speech by anyone in authority is simply un-American. I do not feel that the coach or bus driver were trying to squelch infighting between students, but to control the minds of the children, by placing fear in their hearts. Fear that the mear mention of the new, black president will be met with severe punishment...this is the same way slaves were held in check in the south, and the same way that Jim Crow was allowed to flourish for years...FEAR. Those that have never felt it won't understand, but those that know should stand up now and make sure that this is stopped... we can nexer again be afraid to speak.

What do you think of this? Since Obama's election, 14 executions are scheduled for Texas by mid-March. Of the 14, there is only one white - the other 13 are black and brown only, although blacks only comprise 12% of Texans, and there are more Caucasians on death row. (I will find the source for you for this info. and post it later this week.) Do you think that more than school children are being put in their places?
Thanks for your response to this.

Having lived in Mississippi, I can tell you that this story is quite real. Many people do not put certain banners, etc. in their yards or on their cars for fear of reprisal. It happens all the time.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech in this country. Since when is a child told not to say the President's name. What is wrong with the adults in this country that they act like spoiled children who cannot stand when they have not gotten their way. No wonder this country has been in the shape it is in. How dare adults destroy the innocence of a child. As a mother and grandmother, this just makes me sick to hear something like this.

Sounds to me like Pearl, MS has just laid the ground work for some nasty law suits that most deffinitly coming it's way. I hope the national news media gets ahold of this and rips them apart.
The real sad part here is there are educators that are teaching this rubbish. The state should remove them from teaching ever again. This is the poison that has destroyed this nation.

It's pretty difficult to prevent such mean-spirited, racial and prejudiced comments erupting from those adults in Pearl, Mississippi, against President-Elect Obama when national radio talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh are on the airwaves on a daily basis, calling our newly-elected President and his recently chosen Chief of Staff "mafia-connected" and insinuating that Obama's supposed connection with Ayers and others will result in crooked and underhanded government tactics during the next four years!! Excuse me, but isn't that exactly what's been going on for the last eight years??? That statement just floored me when i heard it the day after the election, and I immediately turned him off -- Sadly, it is ironic that Limbaugh has chosen to continue his harassment and disdain for Obama, stirring up more trouble and feeding already-narrow-minded individuals' minds more lies and innuendoes that only serve to widen the rift between the majority of American voters and the so-called Moral Majority right-wing nuts and religious fanatics who seem to relish and support his sick viewpoints. I truly believe Limbaugh's program should be cancelled as being detrimental to the national security of our nation! It is thinking such as his which has produced citizens who feel they have the God-given right to foist their self-righteous beliefs on the rest of us who do NOT feel the same way. And THEY are the ones who are going around calling themselves Christians and fundamentalist evangelicals?? Those actions are certainly not definitive of a true Christian based on the Bible I read on a regular basis!
The Constitution's provisions for freedom of speech have been totally breached by the last eight years of Republican tyranny, greed and self-centeredness that have become hallmarks of the Bush Administration. As the saying goes, "Freedom of speech does not stoop to allow a person to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater for no reason," and the American people, through their historic vote casting on Nov. 4 to reject McCain/Palin's fanatical religious views and policies also embraced by President Bush, have boldly stated, "No more! It's time for a change in the way American government operates!"
It's really sad to realize that grown men and women such as those in Mississippi feel justified in their tiresome tirade and use their religious convictions to hide behind, especially at a time when the United States of America needs them the MOST to pull together as one great nation to solve our common problems and unite in our desire to see this country healed of its many open wounds inflicted upon it by President Bush and his cronies in the White House. My prayers continue for them, that God will heal their embittered, racially biased hearts, and help them to see that their anger and fear of anything or anybody who's different from them is anything but Christian. The Lord and Saviour they profess to love and have living inside of them took meals with publicans and sinners, the lowlifes of that time period, and instructed his followers to "love one another, even as I have loved you . . " Love doesn't make people tell their children they're not allowed to speak their new President's name or they will be ostracized, hate and racial prejudice does!!
