Barack Obama's prayer that was left in the Western Wall, was published.
The decision to print Obama's prayer drew high criticism from members of the religious community, who see the action, as a violation between Obama's personal relationship with God.
"Lord — Protect my family and me," reads the note published in the Maariv daily. "Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."
A photograph of the note has been published by Maariv. Maariv claims that the note was removed from the Western Wall by a student at the Jewish seminary.

I think this is an important story and would benefit from other NowPublic contributors working on it. I've flagged it as News Wanted and invite others in relevant locations to look for more evidence.

The original GS flag was mistakenly placed and has been removed. Moonwolf and Vinny are correct -- members and staff do not flag their own stories as Good Stuff -- it's up to the community to decide.

At first I thought the issue would have brought conflict to the delicate situation of the Middle Eastern, but I think its more of an concern for orthodox Jewish rabbis within the region than anyone else.

I thought no religion had a monopoly on God or prayer. I think Obama praying in a synagogue, mosque, church, or wishing well does not detract from his religious beliefs. So much for unity and coexistence between religious faiths.

Everything Obama does is under such scrutiny - I would hate to have that kind of pressure put on me.
And really, no matter what he does he is going to come under fire from one side or another. Especially at this late stage in the game.

You're right, Amy. Did you hear that he tied his right shoe first; how tacky is that?
at 16:55 on July 25th, 2008
Ha! So tacky! Or was that some kind of secret sign to the crowd that he was about to do something important?
:)

Maybe it's like that terrorist fist jab thing.

Hmmm, no comment on that!

I think it unconcionable that someone would remove the note and print it's contents.

So, someone grabbed the prayer and published it? I love "who done its." I have my own ideas . . .

*shruggs* So I read his prayer and I think how is that so different than anyone else who is putting a prayer in at the wall?
Oh wait. It's Obama.
How many others have had their prayers pulled out and published. Perhaps we should start doing this with "all" high profile visitors at the wall. Um.. maybe not....
Better we stop, take a deep breath, and think was this invasion of privacy really necessary?
In a word - No.

There is a common misconception regarding religious congruity, and that is that it can coexist. Jesus, of the Christian faith, spoke of Himself as the only way to Heaven. I happen to believe this. Since I do, how can I agree with what other faiths or religions believe? The problem that people tie to this belief is fabricated hatred. As in the bane of media attention, the focus on the few haters of other people circumvents the true and common believer. I speak for myself as well as hundreds more; we do not hate people. Period. Quite the contrary; we love people. How can we hate yet profess Christ as our Lord, who showed the ultimate example of love when he willingly died for all men? However, Christians cannot propagate a lie, which for us is the belief in diverse religious unity.

Does anyone truly think the Obama campaign did not expect this to get published ?
