A bright sky bound object was first noticed in December 2008 in a South Western direction however its new position is now South Easterly. Find attached photographs of the object concerned which has an adjacent object to its right and two objects closely fitting to its left.

Congratulations.  You've discovered Jupiter.  The objects to either side are its moons.

And yes, in December 2008, Jupiter was in the south-west setting 2.5 hours after the sun.

Currently Jupiter rises in the east about 10pm.
