I have discovered that if I do not have my camera with my I will, without fail, come across something interesting and end up regretting that fact that I did not have my camera. Of course I can always use my iPhone as I did today

.

Today I was walking along Dame Street and at the Central Bank I came across a group of protesters encamped in the public area . According to RTE there are about 20 protesters but according to some newspapers there are up to 100. In my opinion it is almost impossible to determine the exact number because many of the people appear to be onlookers but I certainly do believe that there are many more than twenty.

I did manage to have a chat with one of the protesters (Laurence) and he indicated that they were there "for as long as it takes".
OccupyDameStreet is one of many related occupations initiated by Occupy Wall Street (occupywallst.org). It is an initiative by the common people and it is unaffiliated to any political parties.

"Our demand in Ireland is that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and European Central Bank (ECB) stay out of our affairs. We do not want their influence or control. Our demand is that the private bank debt that has been socialised and burdened upon the population of the country who had nothing to do with it be lifted. We will not pay and let our children and grandchildren pay for this mess that private banks and bondholders have caused. It is their problem, not ours. Our demand is that the oil and gas reserves off our coast that were criminally handed away to private corporations be returned to the people. Our demand is for real, participatory democracy - where the people's interests come first, where the people decide what happens."
