Offshore Drilling Won’t Stop Oil Profit Inflation

The oil industry is continuing to suggest through its surrogate ‘body snatched’ republican Presidential candidate that offshore drilling for oil will somehow miraculously lower retail gasoline and diesel prices. This argument presupposes that the global economic system is a purely ‘capitalist free market’ where supply and demand are the only determinants of retail prices.

Under the current totalitarian economic society (reference “Economic Society” article from April 23, 2008) every element of societal interaction both public and private is contorted to the exclusive benefit of wealthy business elites. Speculators, CEO’s, corporate board members, and other well positioned business elites have devised a contorted economic system whereby their interests are insured to the detriment of the majority of global citizens.

When OPEC refuses to increase crude oil production or reluctantly raises it an additional trickle, the oil companies gleefully rub their hands together in anticipation of all the additional cash that will be flowing in after they raise retail gasoline and diesel prices once again. Their excuse for raising prices will rest upon the ‘hard work’ of speculators that mysteriously bid up the price per barrel of oil way past the illusory ‘free market’ determinants of supply and demand into newly uncharted stratospheric heights of pillage. Given the fact that distortion, illusion, and contradiction form the basis for the totalitarian economic society in which we live the oil companies will ‘rest their case’ for raising prices at the ‘holy steps’ of supply and demand. They will recite from the scriptures of the most holy of all ‘stone carved’ books: ‘The Free Market’ – when they argue that a reduction in the supply of oil is the central factor pushing the price per barrel of oil higher and hence the retail price that they charge at the pump for gasoline and diesel.

Another worn out platitude used by the business elite to subjugate and pacify all citizens is to have them rally behind the remaining ‘shell’ of their nation-states. If the business elite can instill a sense of misdirected patriotism in the majority of citizens of a nation state by directing their attention towards some nebulous evil foreigners who are disrupting the economic stability of their nation they can continue their nefarious pillage of those same citizens under cover of illusion. A perfect example is when we hear that we must reduce our dependence upon foreign oil even though the source of this oil supply is tied to the same global totalitarian economic society as the market speculators, oil company executives, corporate board members, and every single business elite participant linked into the underlying global economic system.

The only solution to reducing retail gasoline and diesel prices rests not with allowing offshore drilling and building additional refining capacity only to have retail prices drop momentarily by a ‘red herring’ response from the oil industry but with the complete nationalization this industry. All essential commodities and products must be released from the grip of greedy business elites determined to utilize their convoluted, and contorted economic system to wipe the remaining income ‘sweat’ from the brows of hard working global citizens. Our governments must come under our control once more – every attempt must be made to pull out the lobbyist ‘feeding tubes’ from our governmental representatives who have been ‘body snatched’ by the corporate business elite.
