I painted it up all lovely, but it still sure looks gross…”

I am paying attention to cars these days. I need one, I guess. I really don’t because I can go everywhere by public transportation, and rental cars are all around the neighborhood. That’s the new paradigm, just grab one when you need it.

I take good care of the Toyota truck and it will last me my lifetime – all paid for.

Anyway, my daughter sent to me this link showing celebrity cars featuring Janis Joplin’s Porsche first. It is painted in a 1960’s hippy-style motif that just seems to be incongruent to me.

Boy that was a good model year. What did Jaguar look like in 1965? I’ll look it up and post for visual comparison. In 1965, I was driving a 1959 Mercedes 190, gray with red interior and a genuine wooden steering wheel with a speedometer that changed colors to tell me when to shift gears.

Janis Joplin's 1965 Porsche

One of those is Janis Joplin’s unmistakable 1965 Porsche, which boasts a wowzer psychedelic / flower-power paint job that’s a swirl of day-glo flowers, star-sign symbols, cartoon butterflys and even a ‘portrait’ of her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. “It was like a moving mural,” said Howard Kramer, curatorial director for the Hall of Fame, referring to Joplin’s Porsche. “The artwork is really emblematic of the psychedelic era. Plus, she didn’t just store it -- it was one of her prized possessions, so she drove it around all the time. If it was parked on a street in San Francisco somewhere, you knew she couldn’t be too far away.”
