After securing electoral victory this November, Ohio Gov.-elect John Kasich quickly erased many of his campaign promises off his web site. Then he unveiled his “personal philosophy” of worker’s rights at a recent press conference. Kasich said, “I don’t favor the right to strike of any public employee, ok? That’s my personal philosophy.”

A good argument can be made for denying the right to organize public workers. Working for the government is a privilege. Workers who are employed by government should be treated with the highest respect for having been hired against high standards for employment. They have been legislated certain benefits that are determined to ensure competitive employment.
I don't think people should approach government employment with the notion of having lifetime careers with government. There should be turnover as that will ensure a fresh workforce. (And cap high cost.)
Government service can and should be valued by the private sector based on merit. Therefore, at some point after eight years of government service, employees should plan to move into the private sector.
