Niger Hostage release, One out of three.

Last December 14th 2008 Robert Fowler, Louis Guay and Soumana Mounkaila disappeared in Niger about 40 Km from Niamey the Capital City of that country.

Many conflicting news came out ever since about their whereabouts and who may or may not have kidnapped them.

On The 23th of March 2009, the UN has now announced the release of Soumana Mounkaila, yet no word about Robert Fowler or Louis Guay. Robert Fowler was the special UN envoy to Niger, charged to negotiate with rebel groups for a peace. And Louis Guay works with the Canadian Embassy. Both Man where under UN mandate in Niger.

So, what to do when the wand doesn't work would be the question.

Thanks, Uwe for digging this up and updating us. It's a relief for his family and others like myself who now seem to have a new awareness of the dangers in the region. I am about to reply by snail mail to a Peace Corps worker who has been stationed there for years but rarely accesses the Internet.

I wonder if this is a good sign or bad for the others. Unless you know the reason behind the release it is hard to speculate. Will look for updates. Thanks Paschen.
