One Year Later: 10 Reasons Not to Elect Barack Obama
Today, I offer a flashback to a post I published one year ago today which offered 10 Reasons Not to Elect Barack Obama president of the United States. Was I right?
1. Obama said he wants to establish a civilian national security force and, in doing so, further enlarge the federal government.
2. Obama said his energy policy will bankrupt coal companies that try to build new plants.
3. Obama said he will drastically cut defense spending, research and capabilities while our enemies and potential adversaries continue their own efforts. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) confirmed Obama is following through on the promise here.
4. Obama stood by and did nothing while his colleagues in the Democrat-controlled Congress voted to throw hundreds of billions of dollars at the nation’s recent economic meltdown while not taking responsibility for what caused it.
5. Obama said his campaign was — and his administration will be — free of the influence of lobbyists. Once in, all of that changed, according to a Fox News report. Obama broke this pledge early in his presidency with the nomination of William Lynn as deputy defense secretary. Lynn was registered until last July as a defense lobbyist for Raytheon Co., where he advocated for a range of military programs. Even though Obama did issue the ethics rules he promised on the campaign trail, he ended up issuing a waiver on Lynn's behalf after senators threatened to hold up the nomination. Lynn was confirmed, and the administration continued to grant waivers for subsequent former lobbyists.
6. Obama promoted a culture of death by supporting so-called “pro-choice” legislation at every turn and counting Planned Parenthood as a strong and close ally. Continuing that line of thinking, federal funding of abortion is said to remain in the near-2,000-page health care reform bill now under consideration in Congress.
7. In his own voice and his own words, Obama reads from his memoir, Dreams From My Father, and expresses views that can only be viewed as hateful toward what he calls “white folks.” Further, his wife Michelle plays the race card (video removed from YouTube), too.
8. Obama’s friends in the mainstream news media tout him as a “gifted orator,” but when he’s without his teleprompter, things look much different. See examples here.
9. Based on Obama’s error-filled knowledge of the United States (i.e., he said he had traveled to 57 states), many find it hard to believe Obama graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School and was elected a U.S. senator. Now, there's even a coin collection to commemorate the "Seven Mystery States."
10. Was it a gaffe or was it true? During an appearance on ABC’s "This Week with George Stephanopoulus," Obama admitted he’s a Muslim (video pulled from YouTube).
Today, I'm forced to conclude that the one-time most-liberal member of the U.S. Senate is now the most-liberal president ever.

I'll be back as Arnold says. I have a list to add! : )
Actually I am worried his lack of experience and shock of finding out that everyone does not love him is making him sick. He is either smoking himself to death or that plus not eating. He asked for this bed to lay in but it looks like we could have a very physically sick President in the house unless he can get a Dr. to pump him with pills like the "stars" will do when they can no longer carry on their horse and pony shows.

Thanks for the flashback. Articles I write prior to the election were called ignorant and fearmongering. Most of the statements turned out to be true. I didn't realize that transparent meant we would see right through this President. Thanks for the retrospective

I am no big Obama fan so don't take this as me defending him. But if you're going to make a statement such as what's posted here, at least get your facts straight so you don't embarrass yourself. Also be sure to take into account that some of the reasons you have listed, are only reasopns based on your own beliefs. Case in point:6. Obama promoted a culture of death by supporting so-called “pro-choice” legislation at every turn and counting Planned Parenthood as a strong and close ally. due take into consideration that the other half of your country (and a large portion of the world) don't see being pro-choice and a "culture of death" as the same thing. so don't throw around your opinions as matters of fact.enough. show yourself out.

Malcolm -- That's why it's marked as "OPINION" (or can't you read?).

Third trimester abortions are a "culture of death".
at 20:16 on November 2nd, 2009
Roy C -- I can't say I've missed your liberalism during my several months on hiatus. Any abortion is murder. Promoting abortions is akin to promoting a "culture of death." There, I said it again.

Incest? Rape? Still not okay? No? I didn't think so. Bible is as bible does, says Forest

I agree . Majority does not mean morality by any means!

Oh the simple, single dimensional thinking of the religious right. Do we even want to discuss the deaths caused by delaying stem cell research for 8 long years..no let's go with a right wing hot button. How about how the security (let alone the humanistic impact) of the religious, if its a sperm its a life dogma:
A simple example is the issue of population control. Many fundamental church branches do not encourage contraception. They advocate abstinence as their primary form of birth control. The vast majority are opposed to legal abortion. These are moral decisions, predicated on religious dogma. The religious right has unfortunately also encoded these value agendas into US foreign policy, particularly in the 8 years of the Bush Administration. The US in this period severely reduced funding for the UN Population Fund, refused fiscal support for any organization that counseled on abortion where legal, and reduced financial support for family planning services in the developing world. While these faith-based initiatives may salve the conscience of the religious right, what it did in actuality was accelerate the birth rate in the developing world. What many in the religious fold fail to realize is the sociological factor termed by demographer, Henrick Urdal, as the Youth Bulge. A youth bulge in a country significantly raises the likelihood of civil conflict. As an article in the Washington Post points out, “…research by Population Action International suggests that it is no simple coincidence that 80 percent of the civil conflicts that broke out in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s occurred in countries where at least 60 percent of the population was under 30, and that almost 9 of 10 such youthful countries had autocratic rulers or weak democracies.” This is a strategic threat that the military understands even if the religious right does not syet ee the consequences of its a attitudes on population control. William L. Nash, a retired Army major general who directs the Center for Preventive Action of the Council on Foreign Relations, was quoted as saying “You’ve got a lot of young men. You’ve got a lot of poverty. You’ve got a lot of bad governance, and often you’ve got greed with extractive industries. You put all that together, and you’ve got the makings of trouble.”
If we examine the many of the areas of the world where the US faces security threats, they correlate with young populations. In Afghanistan youth make up 37% of the population, Iraq and Somalia 34%, and in Pakistan 35%. This contrasts with more stable countries such as the US, Japan, and Western Europe where that same statistic is 16%. The consequences of religious views around contraception and abortion, negatively impact US foreign policy, produce accelerated population growth in developing and economically challenged areas and result in a greater security threat for the US. It is ironic that the self-styled protectors of US freedom are in pursuit of policies that result in endangering US security. More of these inter-conectiveness theories are being discovered each day. This makes the fundamentalist religious ideological sets increasingly marginalized . We operate in a much more complex world than was imagined a the time of the creation of such religious dogma.

Have fun with the demographic suicide thing.
The "Youth Bulge" will become quite apparent when most of the west is comprised of creaky geezers, waving their canes in protest at the Iranians, or Indonesians, or Mexicans, or Nigerians.
Yup, that will be good.
Meanwhile, the single-minded population control freaks can rest easy, knowing their propaganda has succeeded in the western world...now if only they could learn Farsi.
at 18:58 on November 2nd, 2009
I speak Farsi, actually. My Arabic is poorer. My French is sheit, but my German is okay
This is religious stupidity putting us at risk, Read the stats, not just the Bible. The more you preach and deny contraception (and abortion from rape, incest et al) the more you put me and mine at risk. I doubt anyone really wants to invade Nebraska, but here on the coasts we are more concerned about strategic policy choices as they are important
at 20:18 on November 2nd, 2009
You speak Farsi and believe farce. By the way, I'm not from Nebraska, and I speak Japanese, Russian, French and English.
at 20:29 on November 2nd, 2009
No? Apparently you don't do comprehension well either. The comment was a reply to Roy then Hugh, try context and reading next as a skill set to see if you are requested to comment. If I deigned to reply to you it would be within the nexus of full moon? BTW you"speak" Republican American. You also 'think' American (see Bible and linguistic reference loop). You couldn't even figure out why I referenced Nebraska, sheesh?
at 05:02 on November 3rd, 2009
"I doubt anyone really wants to invade Nebraska," i assume that means you've never been to North Dakota? They are a fearsome lot up there.
"but here on the coasts we are more concerned about strategic policy choices as they are important." I'm sure you are, and most happy that you have relieved us yokels of that terrible, terrible burden. With our free time, we plan on making the sport of cow tipping an Olympic event. O, it will be grand!
"Read the stats, not just the Bible." Well yes, i did read the stats. In the four countries I mentioned above - Iran, Indonesia, Mexico, and Nigeria, the projected population total for the year 2050 is 850,000,000 - just for those four nations.
Meanwhile, the United States, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Canada (8 western countries), will have a combined total of about 695 millions. I can add Russia to the list, but that still only totals 800,000,000.
So have fun with the "strategic policy" thing, i got cows to tip.

Not one sentence here would you say face to face with anyone. Sheesh to your brain.
at 06:40 on November 3rd, 2009
Educated religious people use contraception..get your statistics correct.. Why oh why rng do you HATE people who need a compass of sorts.? Do you honestly believe you are a whole and complete person because you can think 'DIFFERENTLY?
We now have in America thanks to the Welfare Programs started by LOONS girls having babies to make money and then we as a society have these babies "not raised"..they literally let them play in yards unsupervised and grow up in beds with Momies Baby Dads...4 and 5 before 21...because? BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT LET THEM GET STERILIZED? oH YEAH, GIVE US MORE GOV PROGRAMS.
We need more schools to educate all the little children who have literally grown up with no values or morals and many emotional problems...resulting in more crime.
Preacher Man that you are...your stupidity about religion is a little off. The catholic church is not the only moral compass in the world for one thing.
Here on the coasts? Why don't you stop the influx of thousands of people pooring in every day> Why not be concerned about something that can be controlled.

Does anyone seriously believe that Barack Obama does not know how many states are in the Union? That was clearly a blunder, and to represent it as anything else undermines the other possibly legitimate critiques that are being leveled. Of course if you are seeking only to reinforce gullible idiocy, then great job!!!!
at 22:10 on November 2nd, 2009
There were at least 10 reasons not to elect Obama. Yet, what would be some good reasons to elect our only other option, John McCain and Sarah Palin?
at 06:30 on November 3rd, 2009
Soyunangel, rng do you think John Mc Cain would have us in this shape today? Do you "think" a woman who does not go to Harvard has no 'common sense" . All I care about all of you dudes on this thread who have crossed NP' code of conduct is horse sense not fancy rhetoric and knowing the whole world's statistic's and history like that idiot Couric wanted to Palin to regurgitate for her.
Borders we need. Factories we need. Enforcing laws already on the books to start with could help us all. Sending the criminals away.. all this Palin was perfectly capable of! You demonize the feminine and demonize a book of history and moral parables many people honor for their construct of morals to teach their families? May God have mercy on the women in your lives. Let me see........could you write a better idea than "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?" etc,?
You have puffed your big brains up so much that we are over populized to be POLITICALLY CORRECT.
We cannot put our symbol of America up anywhere? We can no longer have holiday parties in school? We can't say our child died from Muslim Terrorists on his tombstone? We can't ask a muslim to take off their scarves for security reasons. We can't force someone to learn our language but give them free health care and other benefits. We can't believe marriage is between the opposite sex without a group coming out and raging at us?
It might be good to study up on your own shadows. If you had you would know why corruption is so bad in all the places that have destroyed us. Unconsciousness causes people to push the envelope in every business in the country. Oh boy , then we get a lot of new companies doing criminal acts regarding "science"in order to do stemcell and we see all the propaganda of big fat old people on bill boards that say I get to live 1 more year because I got the flesh from ...what? A woman who had a being cut out of her and will live with emotional pain the rest of her life unless she is a sociopath or amoral.
What illness has been "cured" . Tell me one cure other than polio etc We have no cures and you still have the magical thinking of typical unconscious people who think the NEXT THING ...SCIENCE WILL CURE THIS?! Man is not God, never will be. Nature is a force that will always play it's role too.
Judging people on how they talk, write etc......is that of an iron clad heart with no real emotion or feelings. Soome people need to get their fixes by big fancy words of how bad the center and right is because of not wanting to save people from illness by giving Big Pharma another excuse with stemcell to get more Gov money ? It gives the brain stimulation and makes loons feel more are alive....oh yeah they care...they care!
The best lesson for over educated snobs is to go work in a kitchen and be forced to do whatever the Queenbee says...even thos they think they know a better way to peel potatoes. It gets a lot of rage out having to obey a commoner which is what you smart ones should have to do who hated Palin so much. The Great Mother will come thru the feminine and she is really pissed. Your masculine minds have screwed everything up long enough. ..and the masculine feminine minds who were contaminated with the likes of Dragon Lady Gloria Steinem have too.

Wanda, I know it is hard to have put all your hope in Barama but this article tells it like it is and your word "tripe" fits more your comment and Obama's actions and non action.
