The Court in Ontario, Canada Ruled That Prostitution is Legal. Here is the March 26, 2012 Ruling

Pimping just got a little bit easier, at least in the Canadian province of Ontario. An Ontario court ruled that brothels and pimping that protect prostitutes are now legal.

Certain Ontario prostitution laws were struck down: one against bawdy houses which was ruled unconstitutional. Anti-pimping laws were also deemed unconstitutional but would still be relevant “in circumstances of exploitation.”

One law that remained untouched: communicating for the purposes of prostitution will remain illegal.

The ruling hopes to get sex-trade workers off the streets and protect their safety.

“The record is clear that the safest way to sell sex is for a prostitute to work indoors, in a location under her control,” said the court.

The changes, if they indeed happen, won't take place overnight.

"As we will explain, we agree with the application judge that the prohibition on common bawdy-houses for the purpose of prostitution is unconstitutional and  must be struck down.  However, we suspend the declaration of invalidity for 12  months to give Parliament an opportunity to redraft a  Charter-compliant  provision. "
