Look at the statements below, then try to guess the identity of the person Lou Pritchett was describing as someone who “scares” him in a letter published May 19 at DallasBlog.com:

  • I know nothing about you;
  • I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support;
  • You did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American;
  • You have never run a company or met a payroll;
  • You have never had military experience, thus don’t understand it at its core;
  • You lack humility and “class”, always blaming others;
  • For over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail;
  • You are a cheerleader for the ‘blame America’ crowd and deliver this message abroad;
  • You want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector;
  • You want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one;
  • You prefer “wind mills” to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves;
  • You want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world;
  • You have begun to use “extortion” tactics against certain banks and corporations;
  • Your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals;
  • You will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people;
  • You falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient;
  • The media gives you a free pass on everything you do;
  • You demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Reillys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view;
  • You prefer controlling over governing; and
  • If you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

The letter was an open letter to President Barack Obama. In addition to revealing one man’s opinion of the Commander-in-Chief, the letter is, I suspect, reflective of the opinion of millions of others.  So why make light of it?  Because of the person who wrote the letter.

Author Lou Pritchett is described at the end of the letter as “a well-known public speaker who retired after a successful 36-year career as the VP World Sales for Proctor and Gamble.”

In other words, and as evidenced in the content of his web site, he knows business.

Just thought I would share.

Editor’s Note: The legitimacy of this letter was confirmed by Snopes.

I interpreted this letter as this:

"I know nothing about you" --> So let me describe you with all the liberal stereotypes I can list!

Mr Lou Pritchett says that our President scares him… I’ll answer by writing after each paragraph.

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

My suggestion: “Google it”, it is amazing! Just in case, here is a link:

http://www.biography.com/articles/Barack-Obama-12782369

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Occidental College L.A – Columbia University – Harvard. PROBABLY, if this was the education path of another person, Mr. Pritchett would define him as “a remarkable young man making his way through education to achieve the American dream.”

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.

He was ten years old when he came back to America, after four years in Indonesia. Now Mr Pritchett scares me. Is he deciding who is and who is not “culturally” American? Is he proposing that those who are not “culturally Americans” do not have the same rights that those who, according to him, are “truly Americans”?

You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

These are two different issues. One: Where in the Constitution says that you must run a company to be eligible for office? The required skills are not the same, and objectives are different.

Two: Just a plain lie. Everybody knows where and when our President worked.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.

That is why the president has advisors. We have numerous examples of people with great military experience ruling Latin American countries… Do I need to say more?

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.

Well, Mr. Pritchett is entitled to his opinion, but opinions do not count if we want to make a point.

About blaming others; if we are talking about who got us into this mess, certainly was not our President.

You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

Wait a minute… Mr Pritchett said that he did not know anything about the President…

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America' crowd and deliver this message abroad.

Trying to achieve peace mean making concessions and be the first in recognizing past errors. It is a risky thing to do; because you hope that your counterpart will do the same, but there is no other way to reach peace based on mutual commitment.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

That is called democracy in action; the majority voted for this model at this time. The old discussion of private vs. state has been going forever. The history shows that both extremes have failed.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

Not true. The plan is to add an option to extend health care to those who can’t have any.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

Leaving the non-renewable resources as a true reserve and last resource sounds more responsible to me.

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

This is just a vague statement based on buzz words (not to mention that the goose has stopped laying eggs for a long while). Everything must evolve and change. Capitalism has changed, other systems have changed. The world moves and evolves. Maintaining the status quo of the present condition will kill America, not the will to move forward and grow, along with a determination to regain true leadership in the continent and the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.

This is another of those statements based on partial interpretation. I will like Mr Pritchett to be more specific and provide information of supported facts instead of throwing statements as gossip.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

Again, this is based on what? Is Mr Pritchett a recognized analyst of the Democratic Party?

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

Not true. It is well known that many projects have come from bi-partisan committees and there are several members in government positions that are not democrats.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

Another one… This one is borderline name calling.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.

The media has been historically moderate with the President. That is not a free ride. In the next paragraph Mr Pritchett does mention very influential people from the media.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

“Demonize and silence”. Mr Pritchett should produce a document where our President, at least since he is in the Office, has referred to the named people “demonizing” them. “Silence” is a word too strong to say without proof. It is almost slandering unless it can be proven 100% true.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

I would like to understand Mr. Pritchett’s definition of governing and controlling. Again, opinions and throwing buzz words just like campaigning.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Lou Pritchett

This last statement is definitely ill intentioned. I should remind Mr Pritchett that it was during the previous administration that at least three people were arrested for wearing a shirt with an inscription against the war in Iraq. However, for as long as we keep our Constitution alive, we will be able to say what we want to say. No president will ever be able to mess with this, we all know that. The advances in loosing many of our liberties and rights came after several laws which were ruled in the previous administration, for better or worse. That is another topic for discussion.

My conclusion, after reading Mr Pritchett’s letter: I see partial truth mixed with a couple of lies and many opinions. One of the possible interpretations is that he is not really scared, what he really wants to do is to scare others.

One more time - An Open Letter to Lou Pritchett June 21st, 2009

Another week, another Open letter to Lou Pritchett in our comment section. As before, we post it here rather than have it hidden in the comments section. Borrowing the much overused cliche, we report, you decide.

An Open Letter to Lou Pritchett:

Dear Mr. Pritchett:

You don’t scare me, because after eight long years of this type of nonsense from those at your end of the political spectrum trying their best to ’scare’ me and everyone else in the world, most thinking people are now immune to your tactics of fear and misinformation.

You don’t scare me, because people who read newspapers instead of getting their information from Fox ‘News’ and diatribes like yours, understand that the fraudulent and irresponsible ’scaring’ of Americans is what led to the debacle in Iraq, the deaths of thousands of Americans and untold damage to our country, and to the subversion of the United States Constitution by the last administration, which used similar methods to strike fear here at home to bypass the judiciary and engage in warrantless searches and spying on American citizens, authorize torture of prisoners and hold others without charges or access to lawyers or courts. Due process of law was just another victim of the big scare.

You don’t scare me, because in 2009, with the experience of the last administration running this country into the worst economic meltdown since 1929, your Chicken Little strategy is only playing to a very small crowd of lemmings who, like the caged birds trained to push the button for a treat, will automatically forward copies of your letter without really questioning the merits of your vacuous allegations.

You don’t scare me, because even though you concede right up front in your ridiculous letter that you “know nothing about” President Obama, you then proceed to vilify him in a series of pronouncements about what you think he thinks and what you think his intentions are, as if you do in fact know something about him.

You don’t scare me, because although you identify yourself as the ‘foremost leader in change management,’ ‘a true living legend’ and ‘an acclaimed author, dynamic teacher and one of the world’s highest rated speakers,’ for some reason as of June 17, 2009 you don’t even have a bio in Wikipedia. In fact, your name is not listed anywhere in the Wikipedia database.

(Although I will concede that you travel in some pretty fast company and apparently have been photographed with a celebrity cartoon cat, or at least a guy in a giant Garfield costume.

You don’t scare me, because you are apparently nothing more than a self-aggrandizing, self-promoter, who rather than engaging in serious, intelligent discourse, has set out to trash the President in exchange for notoriety and potential remuneration, not unlike the “Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and Becks” who are paid large amounts of money to trash the President and everything he does every day, (and whom you, ironically, claim the President is trying to ‘demonize’).

You don’t scare me, because like so many others who write to newspapers and rant on AM talk radio every day, rather than engaging in intelligent, substantive discourse to advance your political agenda, you are instead compelled to resort to defamatory ad hominem attacks, relying primarily upon jingoistic demagoguery, innuendo and falsehoods. You of all people, as a former soap salesman and sales development professional, should realize that’s a dead giveaway that you really have no confidence in the merits of your arguments. It is also thought by many to be the main reason why the Republican Party is presently in disarray.

You don’t scare me, because your statements about Mr. Obama such as ‘culturally you are not an American,’ are so ridiculous as to make people wonder how anyone could take anything you say seriously. Similar lame attempts to make President Obama out to be some sort of “Manchurian Candidate” were soundly rejected by voters last November. But please continue. It only exposes more of your ignorance.

You don’t scare me, because although it’s very easy to say things like “you lack humility and ‘class’, always blaming others,” when you make such simple-minded arguments, they sound more like a third-grader calling names on the playground than a rational, logical and cohesive statement of your concerns. But I guess your are assuming that is the mentality of the only potential audience you have left. In retrospect, our last president was not exactly known for his humility or class either, nor for his business acumen or military service, (not to mention accepting blame for anything… ever), yet I would suspect it is highly unlikely that you complained to the New York Times about it.

Finally, Mr. Pritchett, you don’t scare me, because when you make really goofy statements about Mr. Obama like “you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient,” people who have not already hit the delete button will either laugh or smile, shake their heads and say, “If this ‘living legend’ is as smart as he thinks he is, why can’t he come up with something better than this drivel?”
