NP Rank:
Oprah Winfrey Canada's New US Ambassador?
Barry Artiste Op/Ed
Oprah as Canada's US Ambassador? Well stranger things have happened I suppose, though I think Obama is smarter than to Glitz Diplomacy with Talk Show Biz.
Many say the World has high hopes for Obama, but then many are not listening obviously, when US President Obama stated many time of the Hard Road ahead. Funny how many think he is talking about Highway Maintenance.
At a recent farewell lunch with a dozen journalists, departing U.S. ambassador David Wilkins claimed to have it on good authority that his replacement would be Oprah Winfrey.
Good choice: The iconic talk show host devoted to helping children in godforsaken places would surely find Ottawa in the dead of winter is right up her alley.

Hey!
If Oprah is so fond of godforsaken places, why doesn't Obama appoint her as Ambassadrice to France?!
Carla Bruni could do with a fun friend..........

After Regan, Ventura, and Schwartzeneger, this doesn't seem very suprising at all !

You know Emilio, you do have a valid point there! Thanks
Thanks for your comments as well Frip, The French economy would certainly get a boost with Billionaire Oprah and her penchant for Fashion buying sprees. More like Oprah would have to pay the US Government for a plum post like France.

Wow how cool!

Time will tell Lefty if this is true in its entirety, as Frip Stated, I would think Oprah would prefer France all things considering, since Canada is similar to the US in many ways, except we wear lots of Lumberjack plaid and toques, something I am sure Oprah would not be caught dead in.

Canadians have always been pretty excited about putting a fence up to protect our border from the yanks... this could be the perfect excuse to follow through and stop the flow of stupid once and for all.

I am sure he will find cabinet posts for Diddy, Jay-Z and Michael Vick as well. Maybe Iron Mike as Secretary of Defense.

There is no possibility this will happen.

Lets hope not 158, then the capital of the good ole usa will be renamed GollyWood, DC, much more politically correct than "WTF" DC!

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm already represents a state at the epicentre of Canada-U.S. relations, and was born in B.C.
Smart, gutsy and capable, Granholm is also tight with the new president.
A member of Obama's transition team, she is often cited as an obvious candidate for senior cabinet positions in the new administration.
The big bonus is Granholm already gets Canada-U.S. issues such as cross-border trade, restructuring the auto industry, and cleaning up the Great Lakes.

Thanks for the input as well CJaye, somehow Oprah has more cache in US circles, many would ask Jennifer WHO? History has shown in both our countries that Politicians need not be very intelligent as a prerequisite for a top position,
Perhaps Maury Povich could be in charge of Race Relations in Who's Yer Daddy Department?
And Jerry Springer could be southern Redneck chairman of Defence, my Stars, the list is endless.

Don't throw too many stones Barry. What did our Governor General do before getting that job?

Our GG was a media personality before being GG, no worse than our TOp Cop being a ex Dairy Farmer!

That's my point. No better than Oprah.
