An Oregon Bear had been seen in downtown Medford's Hawthorne Park ealry Monday, then ODFW biologist, Mark Vargas, had told the Mail Tribune newspaper "I planned to tranquilize the bear and release it in the mountains."
The bear, however, ran into the creek and lost consciousness. Vargas and others fought through blackberries in an effort to rescue the animal, but couldn't pull him out of the water quick enough to save his life
Mark Vargus had told the Mail Tribune that the bear was 2 years old.

Thats ashame. Why would you tranquilize a bear so close to the water? Also, if its in the water why would you not try to get it out?
