You knew this was coming. Hours after US President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden had been killed by US forces, various conspiracy theories popped up online.

The Taliban apparently is saying that Osama bin Laden isn't dead at all, but alive and well, according to Pakistan's GEO Television reported. The Taliban didn't seem to offer any real proof that the al-Qaeda leader is not dead.

Then there's the fact that officials buried Osama bin Laden at sea, reportedly because they didn't want him to be buried in a place that could ultimately turn into some kind of shrine. Osama bin Laden was also buried at sea quickly because, as a Muslim, it is customary to be buried as soon as possible.

Some, however, might find the idea of burial at sea suspicious. Alex Jones noted on his blog, "This means there will be no independent verification that Osama was actually killed."

Another Osama bin Laden conspiracy theory: he has been dead for years, and the US government was waiting for the right time to announce it. The theory goes that bin Laden has been dead for a while and Obama, struggling in the polls and dealing with a birth certificate controversy, waited until now to announce the death of the al-Qaeda leader as a distraction.

Odds are, US officials will provide some evidence that Osama bin Laden is dead, likely the release of a Osama bin Laden death photo (a fake death photo has been floating around the web).
