Otty Sanchez Charged With Capital Murder

Otty Sanchez, the San Antonio woman who killed, decapitated, multilated, and cannibalized her three and a half week old baby boy, Scotty Wesley Buchholz-Sanchez, was previously diagnosed with postpartum depression and was going to be admitted in to hospital for treatment. She had been diagnosed with postpartum psychosis, which can cause hallucinations, among other things.

Could postpartum psychosis be responsible?

The father of the baby, Scott Buchholz speaks out for the first time since the tragic event on Sunday morning, and he said he wants to see Otty Sanchez executed for what she did to his son. She is currently charged with capital murder and could receive the death penalty.

The brutal things that were done to this young baby's body by its own mother were just horrific, and medical personnel who responded to the scene said they will never quite recover. The baby's head was severed from its body, his face was no longer recognizable and three of his toes were gone, possibly chewed off.

"She killed my son. She should burn in hell," Buchholz said.

Gloria Sanchez, Otty's aunt, said that her neice had been in and out of psych wards and the hospital had called several months ago to check on her.
Otty did stab herself after killing her son, and she is currently in hospital being treated for these wounds and being held on a $1 million bail.

Her sister and her sister's two children were in the house at the time of the crime, but they were not harmed.

Otty Sanchez and Scott Buchholz are no longer together, and they lived together only two weeks after baby Scotty was born. Otty moved out after being diagnosed with postpartum depression on July 20 but went to see Buchholz at his parent's house last saturday. Buchholz said she became agited when he asked for a copy of Scotty's birth certificate and Social Security Card.

She ran out of the house and even left behind her purse in her hurray. Buchholz's mother called 911 and the case was investigated as a disturbance, however the next day she killed her son.

Officers called to Sanchez's house at about 5 a.m. Sunday found her sitting on the couch screaming "I killed my baby! I killed my baby!" San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said.

Tragic indeed. I wonder why she wasn´t closely supervised if she had a psychiatric background.

thats so twisted! what kinda of person lets her have a baby in the first place. she wasnt supervised or had help with him. she didnt need to have her son there with her if she was hearing voices and such.

This goes beyond 'traggic' and 'twisted is simply demonic.  There's so many factors that have to be looked at in this situation but the message is the same... some women just shouldn't be having children.  Mothers and fathers killing their own children by instant death or torture has become much more common.  What in the world is going on!  I can't help but to wonder if a socialist government would be more convenient (long term) as a society that sees this as a norm.  At least through a socialist governement birth control can be mandated and some women would be completely denied the right to bare children. Some people might disagree with me by saying that we'd loose our civil rights.  I tend to beleive we already have... we just don't know it yet.  We don't realize that messing with these poor innocent beings.... is also messing with GOD!!!!!!!!

Where do you get the notion that society deems this as the norm? We haven't lost our civil rights. They have simply evolved as 250 years ago life was much different as well as what people deemed right. Yes laws change and our constitutions change but that does not mean they are lost.

You sound like every other paranoid freak who takes one tragic event in the world and sees it as the end of man kind.

Her mind is gone, yet we are going to save her body? This lady needs to find her self facing the wrong end of the gas chamber!

WHAT A FREAK! WHAT HAPPEN WITH  THE PERSON THAT DIAGNOSED HER WITH PPD. WHY WAS THAT NOT LOOKED INTO? I wish I had never run across this story on the news - it has haunted me the entire week. This woman should not only get the death penalty but she should be made to suffer the most horrible and painful death for what she's done to an innocent defenseless child that depended on her for safety and protection.

Jesus Christ!! Put her to death and don't spend 10 years doing it...find her guilty...which she is...and kill her!!! People like this do not deserve rights, this should be an in and out type deal. She admitted it, there is evidence to support it...PUT HER TO DEATH!!!! Sure there are types of disorders and such that would suggest why a mother did this, but how messed up can you be to spend a couple hours doing this, she didn't just kill him...she mutilated and cannibalized him!!! It pisses me off...sentence her to death and carry it out the next damn day. She does not deserve mental help nor another day on Earth. Put her to death and let God take care of the rest.

Where was the sister and the aunt that lived with her at the time of the crime. Like they say she should of been watched for, but i guess not. Do you think the sister knew what she was doing?  Sounds like a the family is not all there. If i knew my sister has problems hell if i would leave my niece or nephew with her.

Please everyone find it in your heart to pray for this woman

Please everyone find it in your heart to pray for this woman.

We an all find a way to make some judgement  on this woman and even the system that failed this woman and this child.  I agree.  Persons that have limited mental capacities should be limited in having and releasing children to them or maybe having children.  Unfortunately we don't live in that kind of society.  We live in a "free" society.  Unfortunately in that society there will always be a "casualty" or sacrifice for these freedoms.  As one one of the posts said above: a socialist government, probably would have committed this woman a long time ago.  I did see other news casts and articles that had said that she had an appointment that coming week for Post partum depression, because she had complained of hearing voices, and she was living with relatives, who were most likely attempting to keep an eye on her and the baby.

Trust me when I say I cried and cried when I heard this and I vomited in my hand when I heard this.  I myself, questioned why, because my husband and myself are having issues conceiving, and stories like this do get us down.  I know how treasured a child would be in our home.  But somewhere in my heart, I had to pray for this woman and her family and hope that the presence and being I call God is protecting that little Angel Scotty.  My heart also goes out to his father.  It will be difficult for him to deal with this but he will need to one day find peace.

Yes, this is a horrific tragedy but we have no right to play God as well by sending her to the death penalty. God will give her the punishment she deserves.

Doesn't anyone ask themselves why anyone who had been diagnosed with postpartum psychosis was not admitted to hospital and / or supervised? This could have been supervision by one or more family members. When I lived with someone with severe schizophrenia I wouldn't leave him alone - depending on how bad it was I couldn't leave him at all, but if he had his meds I could make 10 minute checks. Note - that's without a baby in the room! And why the heck did the father abandon them when he knew she was seriously ill? That's terrible.

As for all of the people who said things like people with those problems shouldn't breed, it may come as a shock to you that postpartum psychosis can happen to anyone. I'm sickened by the ignorant knee-jerk reponses when things like this happen.

just for the record - I had a serious psychotic illness (now in remission), and I am a single mother. Numerous visits from social services concluded that I am a responsible parent and there is no concern about my daughter's wellbeing (in fact she's now in high school and getting straight A's). But I was the only woman with such an illness that still had her kids at home at all. Why? Because I had to fight like crazy to get her back after my release from hospital, and most people are just not articulate enough to succeed.

This is a terrible, sad and shocking story, but there's much more to these situations than 'mad people can't look after kids'.
