Some things are just plain wrong.  One of them is the automatic 2.8 percent — or $4,700 each — pay hike members of Congress are due to receive early next year unless American citizens convince them otherwise — and quickly!

On Jan. 22, 2008, Reps. Harry Mitchell (D-Ariz.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) attempted to prevent this Congressional “cash grab” by introducing H.R. 5087 as a measure “To prevent Members of Congress from receiving the automatic pay adjustment scheduled to take effect in 2009.”

Today, as the nation sinks deeper and deeper into an economic crisis, H.R. 5087 appears to have little to no chance of passage.   The most-supported bill among three introduced to address this Congressional “cash grab,” it has only 34 co-sponsors — far short of the 218 votes necessary for passage.

While the $2.5 million cost of the raise might seem small when stacked up against the multi-billion-dollar bailouts already enacted (financial industry) and those still under consideration (Big Three Automakers), the Congressional pay raise costing taxpayers roughly $2.5 million stinks on principle alone.

That’s why American citizens — please, no illegal immigrants need chime in on this one — need to take action NOW and convince their elected officials otherwise.

If you’re as disgusted as I am about this Congressional abuse of taxpayers, CONTACT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS in Washington, D.C., and give them a piece of your mind.  Threaten them with your vote.  Say whatever it takes to convince them to turn off the spigot spewing cash their way.

HR 5087 HR 5087 HR 5087 HR 5087! Yeah, I get who were supposed to pledge our undying gratitude to for being so frugal with taxpayer money. What I haven't found on any site yet, is the the primary information people would like to see, which is what was the bill or resolution number that this Congressional pay raise rode in on? Some of us would like to see who voted for it, and as things stand so far, who can tell for sure whether it happened in fiction or reality. Give us the bill number!

I find it enirely unethical for Congress to grill, scold and belittle the Auto industry about fiscal conservancy and then give themselves a raise. My God! They've been giving our money by the fistful. All this talk about President Bush spending like a drunk sailor is for not! Congress, look at yourselves!

I could care less if Congress votes this bill into existence because it doesn't amount but to a drop in the bucket...2.5 million while Congress and the President are spending unimaginable amounts of money...personally I believe this is a smoke screen to get the attention away from the big picture and to show that while they are spending these multi billions or trillions they can make us feel good that they are preventing a lousy 2.5 million in a pay raise....Am I missing something here..Do I need to put on my Stupid Hat to join in the conversation???  Or do others need to see the real picture of what's going on in this country...Give them their damn money and give back the billions and trillions taken from us already...

President Obama is trying to restore ethics and morality to this country.  Pelosi has indicated she is not interested in ethics or morality and will descredit Obama or any other individual who attempts to introduce morality ad ethics.  The pay raise was incindiary and yet Pelosi decided for HER OWN GOOD the democratics and republicans in the house would receive an automatic raise.  Congress has freely criticized those corporations which gave themselves  bonuses and raises.  Nancy Pelosi is unethical.  She is an example of using her position to satisfy her greed.  Her mouth has two sides.  Pelosi has no credibility.   Perhaps Peloi will be the next to step down because her record is not pristine.  Could she be another Maddox?  Should she be investigated for hidden background agreements.  What else has Pelosi done?  Are ethics and morality loosing battles in this country?  Pesident Obama, with support like Pelosi you certainly don't need any enemies.
