Over 4,000 elders in Sri Lanka IDP centers handed over to relatives

  More than 4,000 elders in IDPs camps in Vavuniya have been handed over to their relatives, Sri Lanka Ministry of Rehabilitation said.

According to the government statistics initially there were some 9,000 elders, who are over 60 year old at these camps. With the handing over some 4,274 elders, another 4,650 elders are currently living in these camps. Among them are 2,477 male and 2,173 females.

There are 85,683 families (262,809 individuals) living at 19 welfare centers in Vavuniya.

There are some elders who have reported that their relatives are abroad, but have not made contact yet.
