Floods have affected over half a million people in Nambia and Angola. Zambia, southwest Madagascar, northern Mozambique, northern and southern Malawi, and northern Botswana have also been subjected to flooding due to excessive rain fall.

The epicenter of the disaster area is Namibia and Angola, where infrastructure has been severely damaged and thousands of people have been displaced. Respectively, 350.000 and 200.000 people have been affected in both countries.

In the latter, many areas have become inaccessible from emergency services and aid organisations. Here the military has deployed troops to assist and evacuate people.

According to the Red Cross, over 100 schools in Angola have been destroyed and camps have been established to assist those who are displaced.

Miriam, I am sorry to read this now, just as I was about to read coverage of the flooding in N. Dakota. Now I shall be forced to make a comparison and I think you know what the outcome of that will be :-(

Thanks for this report....
