A huge gathering in Kot Addu in the Punjab protested Pakistan army usurpation of lands of the indigenous people in what is called the Seraiki belt.

A Baluch senator has alleged the army in Pakistan has converted itself into the largest land estate and capitalist enterprise in South Asia through systemic economic disenfranchisement of the local population .

Seraiki land has always been very fertile, producing much of Pakistan's wheat and cotton. However little money has been invested back, thus leading to impoverishment and underdevelopment. The current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gilani, is Seraiki native, and has initiated several projects to uplift the region particularly in and around Multan.
