Pakistan cautions India against war-mongering
Pakistani political leaders belonging to 58 parties which attended a government-convened National Security Conference in Islamabad on Tuesday strongly condemned the Mumbai attack but also warned to show restraint while issuing statement.
The meeting, attended by political leaders from the parties having representation in the parliament as well as those having no representation in the parliament, unanimously adopted a joint statement wherein the participants expressed firm support for the government and armed forces of the country in defending the country.
National Security Conference (NSC) ended here after which Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Information Minister Sherry Rehman jointly announced official statement.The political leaders attending the NSC strongly condemned the reprehensible terrorist attacks in Mumbai and asked India to exercise restraint while making statements.
Qureshi said that the meeting unanimously adopted the joint statement. He said the people of Pakistan share the grief of the people of India and extend their sympathy to the families of the victims. Foreign Minister expressed steadfast resolve of the Pakistani nation to defend its honour and dignity as well as country’s sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity.
He said that all political parties and democratic forces firmly supports the government and the armed forces of Pakistan in defending Pakistan’s security interests. Qureshi said that Pakistan abhors to any act of violence perpetuated against innocent people.
Pakistan PM says nation united to defend motherland
Earlier, the Pakistan prime minister said that the nation is united to defend the motherland against any foreign aggression.
The conference was convened by the government to devise a joint strategy in view of the aggressive Indian postures in the wake of Mumbai terror attack, which exposed the failure of the Indian intelligence in averting the attack.
National Security Conference (NSC) headed by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was held at the Prime Minister's secretariat.The conference aimed at evolving a joint strategy in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks and was attended by leaders of more than 58 political parties.
In his inaugural address in NSC, Prime Minister Gilani said that there was complete unanimity of views among all political parties and the message has been conveyed to the world that Pakistani nation was united to safeguard the national interests and territorial integrity of the motherland.
The prime minister said the NSC has been convened with a view to creating “political consensus” on the situation in the wake of Mumbai mayhem and the Indian allegations against Pakistan.
Leaders of all major political parties, including chief of PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan, Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Farooq Sattar, Jamiat-e-Ulemae Islam-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mehmud Khan Achakzai are attending the conference.
Sources further said Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmud Qureshi and Adviser on National Security, Mehmud Ali Durrani also briefed the leaders on the situation in the wake of attacks in Mumbai.
