Pakistan completes registration of 87% population

Pakistan top registration authority has informed the head of the state that 87 per cent of the country's population has so far been registered.  

ISLAMABAD: Eighty-seven per cent of the adult population of Pakistan has been registered while the registration of the poor and women has registered marked increase, President Asif Ali Zardari was told here on March 17.
National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra) Deputy Chairman Mohammad Tariq Malik disclosed this in briefing to President Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on the progress made in the registration of population for issuance of computerised national identity cards.
Federal Minister for Labour & Manpower Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Sindh Minister for Irrigation & Power Murad Ali Shah, Nadra Chairman Ali Arshad Hakeem and spokesperson to the president Farhatullah Babar were present during the briefing.
According to an official release, President Zardari appreciated the work of Nadra and asked it to complete the task of registration as early as possible. He said that accurate and complete registration of citizens would help in many areas through provision of accurate statistical data to various departments.
President Zardari said that the success of various government initiatives such as the Benazir Income Support Programme depends upon having an accurate database of the population so that the fruits of democracy could reach to the poor and needy.
