Pakistan: Lawyers Torture Musharraf's Colleague by voiceforpeace

It is really a bad for newly-born democracy in Pakistan as lawyers who remained on the forefront during struggle for democracy tortured a senior colleague of President Pervez Musharraf. Dr. Shar Afghan, who remained as federal minister in the previous government was severely tortured by the lawyers in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.

Reports said that the riots broke out in Mianwali, the hometown of the minister in the wake of manhandling of Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi in Lahore. The protesters here blocked Sargodha Road in protest against the event with Niazi.

Sher Afgan who came to a lawyer’s chamber at Mozang Road, Lahore, was besieged by the lawyers, planning to beat him.

After three hours, lawyers leader Aitezaz Ahsan interrupted and rescued him by escorting to the ambulance. However in the meantime, he was hit and drag by the inflamed people there.

Supreme Court Bar Association Presdient Aitezaz said Pakistan is fast going to the politics of violence.

‘There are black sheep among the lawyers and miscreant elements wishing evil broke into the rank and file of lawyers,’ he said.

He said that he also hold the lawyers responsible for the condemnable event.

Former federal minister, Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi has been rescued safely by President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Aitezaz Ahsan.

A large number of lawyers laid a siege around an office of Dr. Afgan’s lawyer when he came to visit him.

The police present at the scene failed to create a safe passage for Dr. Afgan and he remained confined in the office for about three hours.

Later, President SCBA Aitezaz Ahsan arrived here to control the situation and disperse the lawyers.

Although he asked the enraged lawyers and others to leave the place, they continued to wait for Dr. Afgan to come out.

Later, Dr. Afgan came out of the building and escorted by Aitezaz Ahsan. Struggling through the crowd they made their way to an Edhi ambulance with the help of police.

As soon as Dr. Afgan got inside the ambulance, Aitezaz Ahsan mounted the rooftop of the vehicle which was then driven slowly away from the crowd.
