ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 At least 20 persons were killed when a US drone targeted a house in Shaktoi village in South Waziristan Agency on Sunday, a private TV channel said.As per details, the US predator plane fired a missile at a house in Shaktoi village some 30 km far from Miranshah that killed 20 persons on the spot while several others wounded. In the attack, the house was completely destroyed.
Sources said that the attack was carried out on secret information about the presence of Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud in the area. After the strike, the locals rushed to the site and pulled the bodies and injured out of house’s rubbles and it was feared that casualties may be increased as some persons were buried in debris. It is the second attack in the area as such attack was conducted on Jan 14 that left 12 persons dead.
On the other hand, Secretary General of Jammat -e-Islami (JI) Liaquat Baloch expressed his deep concern over the growing frequency of drone attacks on Pakistani soil.He said the US was directly violating the country’s sovereignty saying, “The US wants to disturb Pakistani government and create uproar among the masses against the government. The US is trying to declare Pakistan as failed state in the world community”.
He further said the US was totally defeated in Afghanistan on every front and it was sensing its failure in handling the so called war on terror in the region.Liaquat Baloch said now the US was putting pressure on Pakistan by using different tactics. He said only the civilians were killed in drone attacks in tribal region and it proves counterproductive.
