Pakistan Sends Relief Goods to Myanmar

Pakistan sends two planeloads of humanitarian assistance to cyclone victims in Myanmar on Sunday. The relief goods included tents, mosquito nets and medicines. Myanmar had been reluctant in accepting foreign aid, but was later forced to change its position because of growing international criticism of its poor response to last week’s disaster.

The Burmese living outside their country are trying to reach family back in Myanmar and coordinating relief efforts for those devastated by the cyclone which killed more than 22,000. More than 41,000 others are still missing.

There has been a reluctance to send aid by many countries over fear of who will get the aid -- the Burmese or the "government".  While I definitely believe there should be caution taken and tracking should be done from the ground, sometimes, the need outweighs the perceived efficiency.  It's good to see Pakistan take a leadership role in this, especially after the turmoil they have experienced over the past several months.
