Explosion at Lahore Train Station
An explosion at a train station in Lahore, Pakistan has killed three people and injured up to 30 more on April 23, 2012. A police office and a station porter were killed at the scene, while a third died on the way to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses report that police were searching a passenger when the explosion occurred. Ball bearings were found at the scene of the blast. You can see video footage of the Lahore train station blast below.
The Lahore train station bomb was apparently left in a duffel bag on the platform, and went off shortly after an express train arrived. This, along with the presence of ball bearings, suggests a timed or remote-triggered explosive device.
On epolice officer said, We're trying to investigate how the bag managed to get through despite so many scanners," though a witness (see below) said that the scanners were broken.
An eyewitness said that he was at the counter when the blast took place. He said there was chaos after the blast and people were seen lying on the platform.
The eyewitness claimed that metal detectors and walk through gates at the station did not function properly.
