Top officials of the United States held talks with leaders of terrorists in Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency, tribal areas situated on Pak-Afghan border. US on diplomats who are on visit to Pakistan say no words about their discussion with terrorists in Landi Kotal. According to sources, terrroists have put farward some demands before laying their weapons. Landi Kotal is the route on which equipment and oil are being supplied to US-led NATO forces. Terrorists have bombed some oil tankers on way to Afghanistan for supplying oil to Afghanistan.
According to report, senior U.S. envoys visiting Pakistan's northwest met with a tribal jirga in Tehsil Landi Kotal of Khaiber Agency and discussed various matters including establishment of law and order and development of the area.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Richard Boucher had the meeting with the jirga in the Army cantonment of Landi Kotal on Wednesday.
Tribal elder Malik Darya Khan headed the tribal jirga, sources said.
The jirga demanded of the US envoys to revive and organize the jirga system to resolve issues of the area in an effective manner, sources added.
“The tribal people are not terrorists but on the contrary are peace loving citizens,” they tribal elders said. The tribal people are in need of education, employment and progress, they added.
Negroponte and Richard Boucher assured the Jirga that practical steps will be taken to ensure provision of all basic facilities in these areas.
Meanwhile, according to another report, Pakistan-Afghanistan friendship bus has been hijacked in Landi Kotal area on Wednesday.
Landi Kotal administration has retrieved the hijacked Pak- Afghan bus after successful dialogues with tribal hijackers.
