What an amazing match this turned out to be in the end. There were lots of stoppages due to rain in the 1st innings and the match was reduced to 47 overs. Despite a tough D/L adjusted target, Ireland fought well, thanks to a superb century from Stirling and some amazing hitting by Kevin O'Brien helped them come closer to the Pak total and they just prevailed in the end by 1 run. Pakistani bowling was horrible and even their experienced spinner, Ajmal went for 71 runs in his 10 overs
A high-class unbeaten 122 by Mohammad Hafeez warmed the hearts and hands of the large Pakistani contingent at the first game of the two-match series in Dublin. Hafeez, 32, made his first ODI century in 19 innings as Pakistan overcame difficult early conditions to post a formidable 266 for 5 in a game restricted to 47 overs, setting Ireland 276 to win after Duckworth-Lewis calculations.
The quality of Hafeez's innings was all the more laudable considering it was interrupted four times by stoppages as the Dublin skies emptied rain and hail on the picturesque Clontarf club ground. The volunteers manning the covers were at least able to keep warm as an Arctic blast conspired against the spectators, some of whom were ill-clad in shorts and t-shirts.
