the coming days will be important. I think thats not the end of the world if the Goverment keeps the options open to retaliate if the Taliban break the deal and start their aggression again.
not the best news but sadly this goverment has shown itself to be the weakest in terms of will and resolve when it comes to terrorism or diplomacy. Army is bound to support goverment and shouldnt step in even if prompted by United States.

As immediate reaction to the development, the militants who were active in Swat have hinted at laying down arms. Hopes for peace in the region are very high so let's see what happens. In my personal view, it is not a big deal because almost the same system has been working in Swat until 1960s. Obviously, the first priority of the government should be peace and if the move leads to restoration of peace, it could be termed an achievement on part of those who negotiated the peace deal.
Personally, I believe that the move would frustrate the designs of the enemies of Pakistan who were behind the militancy. I strongly believe that the elements involved in trouble-making in Pakistan have nothing to do with the Taliban who are fighting the foreign forces in Afghanistan. Rather these are foreign-funded and trained people playing in the hands of their foreign master to destabilise Pakistan.

So this presumably means that all people living in the Swat Valley are subject to Sharia law now? I worry abouit the weakness of Pakistan's present government ands their ability to steer the country in a clear path - the way people want to go.

This is not a presumption but a reality and in fact a huge of majority of people in the area wanted this. As far as Pakistan's national interests are concerned, it is a good move on part of the government.

a distinction needs to be made between the people who want a religious rule of law and the millitants who are hijacking that tool for their own ends. by accepting the sharia law the millitants dont have that claim anymore and cause voilence they would be confronted by the same people.
just look at this report
