Pakistani Pathans jubilant as ‘Pakhtunkhwa’ echoes in UN

For the first time in the 61-year history of Pakistan and 63 of United Nations, the word Pakhtunkhwa [the Land of the Pakhtuns, or Pathans] echoed through the august hall of the General Assembly, parting a satisfying message among the Pakhtuns in Pakistan, including supporters of the ruling Awami National Party in North West Frontier Province.

This recognition of the decades-long demand of ANP, the most popular party among Pathans in Pakistan, came up during the maiden speech of President Asif Zardari to the 63rd meeting of the United General Assembly on Friday.
