Welcoming recent reports about Pakistani military leadership’s readiness to retaliate the US attacks, the tribal elders in Pakistan’s North Waziristan Agency bordering Afghanistan, where Friday’s missile strike by the US drones killed over a dozen people, on Saturday threatened to attack the foreign troops stationed in Kabul, Bagram and Kandahar areas of Afghanistan if the cross-border attacks by the US forces did not stop.

A representative jirga (council) of the tribal elders held in North Waziristan reportedly announced to raise a tribal force to take on the foreign troops inside Afghanistan. The participants welcomed the statement of the Pakistani military wherein it hinted at retaliating to the US attacks and vowed to fight alongside the Pakistani forces to defend the frontiers of the country against the aggression of the US.

Reports from the volatile region said the tribal elders termed the military’s statement as the voice of 170 million Pakistanis, including eight million tribesmen. They said it was a healing touch for the families of the innocent women and children killed in the US attacks in recent weeks.

The tribal elders reportedly said that the US attacks inside Pakistani territory were inciting the tribesmen to fight alongside their Afghan brethren against the invaders. They vowed that the history of tribesmen, replete with the stories of bravery, valour and courage, would be repeated as they were known for keeping their independence intact.

They said the history of tribesmen is full of daring struggles against powerful aggressors whenever they found a brave leader. Saying that they believed the current Pakistani military leaders have that kind of leadership qualities, they offered the military their all-out support against what they the coward aggressors, who were targeting innocent Pakistani population.

The tribal elders urged the Pakistani government to protect its people and safeguard their interests instead of looking towards others for the security of the country. They asked the rulers not to turn their back to the tribesmen in this hour of trial. They vowed that they would soon contact the tribesmen on the other side the border to devise a joint strategy against the foreign troops.

Better think again. How do you know Pakistan isn't working with US forces while claiming otherwise? These tribesmen would better serve themselves getting rid of the Taliban and Al Qaida instead including those who have infiltrated the Pakistani military and government.

Have you gone through my latest post.

Ah, so. Well? Came to this conclusion a long time ago. Don't need actual announcements, confessions, or news story confirmations to see 'which way the wind blows'.

It is very difficult to get any kind of confirmation or denial out from any source at this point in that area of the World, none are credible on either side nor verifiable at this point. The Truth will probably only be known for certain in a decade or two about all that went on and was done and decided and by whom... All there is at this point is what people like Hussain do report and what the main stream media reports or Military and Government communiqués.

NP is one medium where all these voices can be heard and we can all make our own judgement as best as possible with the information at hand and the life experience we all have to some extend with this matters. Some of us know war and conflicts and understand it better maybe then others that have had the good fortune never to live through it. No need to be condescending or insulting, I for one give Hussain the benefit of the doubt.

I wasn't being either. You take insult where none is offered, paschen. perhaps Hussain needs to hear from the observations of others outside his country along with their conclusions. Our media does try to tell us what to think. I for one, do not allow them to make conclusions for me, when it is obvious something else is happening than what they officially report.

Fair enough Rene. I do agree that there is some thing else happening we do not know yet and may not know for some time.

What we do know is that people are getting killed, that a beautiful mountain valley (SWAT) has been invaded by the Taliban and other 'militants' and terrible violence is happening there, that hundreds of thousands have fled for their lives, and that the government is not caring for these refugees adequately. That women are treated very badly and children not much better.

Zichi, Rene Paschen and other friends, your conclusions, doubts, desires to know more, etc. are welcome but I want to make a couple of things clear to close this discussion.

First, I can tolerate any questions or doubts about my posts by any NP member but I simply can't tolerate insult to my country, my nation (Pakistanis as well as Muslims).

Second, I am unable to address each and every comment or question not because I have no information or argument but because I get little time. I work for the whole night and a few hours in the day to earn livelihood for my family. So sometimes I leave your questions unanswered. However, if anybody feels offended by any of my posts, etc. let me know plainly, I will pull them off.

Moreover, I also face some problems like power breakdowns. For example, I typed the complete story that I posted today about Musharraf's one-man show from the print edition of the daily because their online edition was inaccessible and I wanted to let NP readers see it at the earliest but unfortunately the power went off while uploading that. Again I typed a lengthy response to some questions of Zichi but the same happened and I had no option but leave the computer and go to bed.

In short, as Paschen wrote we may never know somethings, some will come to light after some months, years or decades and some needs to be understood from the day to day happenings and the past history.

Good story... from what source??  Personal direct knowledge??  Opps!

Hussain:  You state, quote “First, I can tolerate any questions or doubts about my posts by any NP member, but I simply can't tolerate insult to my country, my nation (Pakistanis, as well as Muslims).”  End quote!  Do you expect the West to tolerate insults by Muslims, to accept the “teachings” and “preachings” of Radical Islam, spewing hate and violence against the UK, America, Spain, and others… and expect us to practice “tolerance” while young minds are bent and destroyed within the madrassas teachings of radical Islam.  If, westerners were to act in those nations where Islam is the dominant religion, punishment would be swift and harsh, followed by deportation, jail, or worst!  Why should we westerners feel or act differently towards you (not you personally)… than your radical Islamists brothers act towards us?

BallyZACA, please cool down. The sentence quoted by you was not meant for you or all the westerners. The NP members to whom it was addressed to have understood my message. As far as "Radical Islam" is concerned, Islam is Islam and nothing else. You know the terms Islamist, fundamentalists, extremists, etc. being coined with Islam or Muslims are adding fuel to the fire. All the followers of Islam could be Islamists and similarly all followers of all religions are fundamentalists because every faith has some fundamentals which its followers need to follow. You may not agree with this but I remember that the Americans had first used this term in late 1980s but when they realised that it's wrong, they dropped it and started using radicalism, extremism, etc.

As for madrassas, not all of them are teaching radicalism or extremism. There are very few that do so and you may be astonished to know that this trend started when the US needed people to fight Soviets.

However, if any of my comments have hurt your feelings, I apologise for that and rest assured that I did not meant so at all.

You can't pick and choose what country or people to insult.

Hussain:  You need to post the website(s), newspaper articles, magazines, etc., from where you've retrieved the information posted for your storyline, so as, the legitimacy of the story can be verified for all who read it.  Thank You.

Let's cut to the bottomline by "Framing the Problem" – “Jihadism”

Jihadism is a sickness incubated within the Arab-Islamic culture, a systemic toxic combination of repression, corruption, intolerance, and fanaticism, being fed by tyrannical regimes eager to deflect popular anger from themselves onto the convenient American or Western infidel.  And until the Islamic political culture changes fundamentally, jihadism will thrive!

Westerners need to understand our enemies mind and intentions and to act preemptively to protect ourselves, our peoples, and our nations security!

Oh, please stop here because your anger seems to be crossing all the limits. It is not fault of any culture. I have already mentioned in response to your earlier comment that there is no fault with Islam and any change in Islamic faith is out of question. The current spate of violence was unleashed the "convenient American infidel" themselves when they needed the shoulders of Muslims to defeat the Soviets.

Mr. Hussain, you’re misguided in your reality of events.  In the words of Osama bin Ladin… “Once we have finished fighting the Russians we’ll be at war with the Americans.”  Your intelligence agency in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Pakistan (the “ISI”) was the source of nearly ALL funding for your war against the Soviets.  Whereas, their invasion of Afghanistan was prompted by the adopted policy of a 14-page document, commonly referred to as “The Bernard Lewis Plan!”  [If, you can’t obtain a copy or identify “who” Bernard Lewis “is”… I'll be glad to provide you with a picture of the MAN, and a copy of his PLAN.]

Mr. Bally, if consider me misguided, it is your opinion and I think so about the people who talk about Afghanistan and Pakistan sitting thousands of miles away. I have not bought the words of OBL. I wrote whatever I have seen here in Pakistan and I think you are sitting too away from Afghanistan where war against Soviets was fought. I am following the events since 1979 invasion of Afghanistan. I do not believe anybody blindly without analysing things myself and talk on the basis of ground realities here in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I have discussed these issues with military officers, senior journalists/analysts, laymen, tribesmen and Pakistanis who fought against Soviets alongside Afghans.

I shall be obliged if you could provide me the picture of Bernard Lewis and the copy of his plan.

Mr. Hussain:  As you requested I've uploaded a “Pic of the Man” and e-mailed you a “Copy of his Plan,” along with his biography and supporting books written regarding his life and events.  This (I hope) will help you to get your head around what initiated the Afghanistan War response by the Soviets.  And what we’re ALL witnessing today – “provided you’re capable of reading the tea leaves of intelligence” – is the "reverse-engineering" of the Bernard Lewis Plan by the Russians.  Which is going to come back to bite em’ on their backside.  In the months ahead we’ll all be witness to outbreaks of independence all along the border countries of Russia and China (similiar to the current problems in Georgia) that have been kept in check to date by extreme force and the continual threat of force, politically and militarily by Putin et' al.
