Regardless of the current socio-political crisis prevalent in Pakistan, it is both interesting and good to know that more than two-thirds of all Pakistanis (77 per cent) claim they are generally contented people while only 20 per cent say they are usually unhappy and three per cent gave no response, according to a latest survey unveiled on Tuesday.
In a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International Association, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked: “Usually to what extent do you consider yourself a happy person?”
Thirty-five per cent respondents claimed to be very happy, 42 per cent considered them to be usually fairly happy, whereas 20 per cent claimed they are usually not very happy people. The remaining three per cent of the respondents gave no response.
The findings of the survey reveal no significant difference in opinion across various demographics. The survey was carried out among a sample of 2,709 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of Pakistan during November 2009. The error margin is estimated to be approximately +2-3 per cent at 95 per cent confidence level.
