NP Rank:
Palestinian Terrorists With Rakes a.k.a. Farmers

I was watching NHK World and they reported how Israeli troops just shot and killed some Palestinian farmers while they were walking to rake their fields. The troops claim the victims were Palestinian Terrorists attacking them with rakes. All right, so if the farmers didn't have rakes, would they have been shot because they were armed with shoes? Personally I like the good old days when we could just be honest and say "I shot him because he looked at me the wrong way."

Israel is pushing its luck too far. USA can and will only support it to limited point. Already US bias toward Israel is being questioned all over the world. Tensions between USA and Israel are at an all time high. If this continues long enough, situation can get very ugly.

They have particularly bad timing choosing to go against the USA during an administration that does not have a knee-jerk support of Israel. If Israel was going to pull something it should have done so under Bush, he would have dragged the USA into the quagmire without a second thought. As it is now they haven't got a leg to stand on.

I've said this elsewhere but it bears repeating. Demographically, Israeli Jews will become a minority in their own country by 2050* due to the high birthrate of Israeli Arabs. Do we expect Likud, Shas and the settlers to allow the election of an Arab Prime Minister? Ha! No need to answer that question, really. It would be the end of Zionist Israel.
If I know this then I imagine every Israeli Jew knows this too. Given their racist dogma (Zionism) they only have two options...
1. To institute formal and official apartheid which would see them undergo the same inevitable fate as white South Africa,
0r
2. Foment and escalate some military clash giving them the (dishonest) security pretext to expel the Israeli Arabs under the Fog of War preserving Israel for the Jewish.
Option 2 goes a long way to explaining the belligerence and over-reactions with Operation Cast Lead, increased settlements, mystifying aggression towards Iran, deliberate obstructionism to the "peace process" etc. etc.The One State and Two State options are untenable for them if they don't enact the purging first. Israel needs a conflict... and soon.
*Applies to Israel/Palestine as a whole.

Great comment, truly the handwriting is on the wall, but now the shoe is on the other foot. I guess that is the catch with democracy, you can find yourself in the minority and then how you treated the minority in the past becomes your future. It is truly only a matter of time...

:) Dr. Norman Finkelstein said that those that support Israel's current politics will be responsible fro its destruction. Israel needs to wake up to reality.
By 2030 the Arab Israelis will out number the Jewish Israelis no matter how hard they try to counter this.
If we would settle this conflict once and for all and manage to make peace by giving the Palestinians what is rightfully there then we could settle a great number of conflicts that are a direct result of this current Israeli politics.

It reminds me of my parents' generation of WASP, they believe that it is essential that Israel exist as a Jewish state in order for the Second Coming of Jesus, which they also thought would occur in the year 2000, or I guess 2010 now. They also have the concept that God "will bless those that those that bless Israel and curse those that curse Israel." They actually think that if the USA fails to support Israel it will bring about the destruction of the USA, life it seems is not without a sense of irony... All I can say is thank God Bush is no longer President.
